Batwoman S2E17 Recap: Kane, Kate

Welcome back, Batwoman lesbians! Things are heating up in the world of Batwoman, and it’s time to recap what you may have missed.

Let’s jump right into it.

We open on Ryan breaking in to the cosmetics building where Kate/Circe’s face is plastered everywhere. Ryan jumps on the security guy there, and asks him for info on where Kate and Black Mask are. The guy tells her he doesn’t know much, but that Black Mask is going underground.

Ryan goes back to the Batcave to tell Luke and Mary what she found out, and they go looking for Kate. Ryan ends up finding Kate at the Hold Up, drunk, treating all the lesbians there to drinks.

Cut to: Alice is still laying with Ocean’s body, crying. Mary meets her there, and Alice tells her that she should have left with Ocean instead of saving Kate.

Ryan goes to the Batcave and meets Luke, who is going through Kate’s old journals. Luke is confident Kate’s memory will come back, while Ryan is more hesitant. Ryan looks longingly at her Batsuit, and knows her time with it is coming to an end.

Kate goes to meet Black Mask and gives him the journals Luke found. Thus, Kate is still in the mind of Circe, Black Mask’s daughter. Safiyah is there, and commands Circe on a job well done.

Sophie comes to see “Kate” at her apartment, and meets Ryan there instead. Ryan is moving her stuff out to let Kate live there again, telling Sophie that her time is almost up. Sophie tells Ryan that’s not true, but there’s more at stake right now — Black Mask is hiring ex-crows to work for him, including Tavaroff.

Ryan goes to the Batcave to look for her friends, and overhears “Kate” telling Mary and Luke that she can’t wait to be back in the Batsuit. Ryan leaves and goes to her van, where she’s moved back in. She decides to keep hunting down Black Mask’s info, but in that moment, the ex-crows come to arrest Ryan for (planted) drug possession with intent to distribute.

Meanwhile, Alice is spreading Ocean’s ashes in, well, the ocean. Safiyah shows up to pay her respects… more on that later.

Black Mask hops into the cop car where Ryan is being held. He wants her to team up with him, but Ryan is naturally against that idea. BM says he will kill her, instead.

Mary and Luke find out about Ryan and jump into action. Sophie is with Kate at the bar, and shows her the letter Kate wrote to Sophie before she “died.” Sophie hears about Ryan in this moment, and they all meet up in the Batcave. While there, Mary gives “Kate” the Batsuit, telling her to help Ryan. In this moment, Kate turns on them and shoots them all with a tranquilizer, Sophie included.

Ryan is being held after her arrest, and her lawyer is trying to figure out why Ryan had Snake Bite containers in the first place. Ryan decides to tell her lawyer for the first time that she is Batwoman. When the Crows come in and attack, Ryan and the lawyer overpower them and her lawyer gives Ryan an ID to get out of the building safely. We love to see it.

Safiyah and Alice are still at the beach, and Safiyah says she wants Alice to come home with her. Safiyah has been working with Posion Ivy, through Circe, to quickly restore her island with the Desert Rose.

Mary, Luke, and Sophie come to and they are trapped in a cell. Kate is going through the Batcave and taking any kinds of weapons she can find. Ryan finds them, and Kate/Circe attacks her. Circe is trying to kill Ryan, and when Ryan hides from her, Circe shoots at Mary, Luke, and Sophie. Ryan comes up from behind, attacking Circe with a fire extinguisher. While they are fighting, everyone else breaks out of the cell. Sophie aims a bow at Circe, but Circe says Sophie won’t shoot her because she loves her. Circe was right. She walks out.

Safiyah is fighting for Alice to come with her, saying now that Ocean is gone, she is the only family Alice has. Alice hugs Safiyah and in this tender moment, stabs Safiyah with a Desert Rose dagger. This temporarily kills Safiyah.

Back at the Batcave, the team discovers that Circe took all of Bruce’s enemies weapons that he had confiscated over the years in battle. Yikes.

Cut to: Circe looking at the Batsuit she stole. She cuts a line straight through the Bat symbol… then we fade out.
