We open up this episode with a flashback. It’s five years ago, and Sophie is talking to an inmate. We find out that the inmate is none other than Clue Master, a genius that Sophie put behind bars. It was her first collar, as she was still a rookie during this time. Fast forward to present day, Clue Master tricks a guard into coming into his cell and stabs him, escaping from prison. More on that later…

Cut to Batwoman kicking some serious False Face Society a**. Ryan (as Batwoman) is looking for Black Mask, but she is stopped in her tracks by the Crows. The Crows say that the FFS guy Ryan knocked out is their guy, despite Ryan having put a tracker on his boot. Ryan escapes with her baton that shoots out lines for her to ride on. Whew.

Meanwhile, Kane is sitting on a bench. In the park. Alone. At night. He shoots up some good old Snake Bite, and turns to look at the swing set behind him. Kane begins to hallucinate, seeing his daughters Beth (Alice) and Kate when they were younger, swinging on the swings.

Speaking of Alice, she is still being held hostage by Black Mask and his “daughter” Circe (who we know is really Kate who has been brain washed by Enigma to think she’s Circe.) Black Mask wants Batwoman’s real name from Alice, but Alice won’t give it up. Thus, Kate aka Circe begins to torture Alice by sticking a weapon under her fingernail.

Ryan gets home from a hard day’s work only to see Sophie and Mary in her apartment. They are drinking together to celebrate Sophie’s five-year anniversary at work. Ryan reluctantly decides to join them, but her animosity towards Sophie is extremely evident. Mary mentions that Ryan accidentally sexted her when she meant to sext Imani (new couple alert!) While the girls are beginning to have some fun together, they discover there is a note on the bottle after almost drinking a poisonous caterpillar out of it. Yuck? The note is from Clue Master, telling Sophie that a young woman has been poisoned and she has to save her.

Back at Black Mask HQ, Alice’s finger nail has now been ripped right off. It turns out she did it so she could escape and make a phone call. Alice calls none other than her dad, Kane, and begs him to save her this time around. Kane tells her she has the wrong number, and stares longingly at the hallucination of Beth and Kate before him. Yikes.

All the while, the girls go to look for the victim that Clue Master lead them to. Mary finds a poison antidote, and when she lifts it, the lights turn on. Only to reveal a woman locked in a clear box, screaming for help. Sophie recognizes her as Clue Master’s daughter… There are a series of boxes that need to be shot in order to save Clue Master’s daughter; Sophie and Ryan argue, but eventually figure out the order. Sophie shoots the boxes and sets the girl free. Mary gives her the medicine. However, Clue Master’s Daughter soon reveals that her father has written a secret code all over her body while she was unconscious.

Wondering what Alice is up to? Well, Circe, aka Kate, has come to see what all the ruckus is about and puts Alice back in her chair. Alice calls her out on being Circe Sionis, who gouged a man’s eyeballs out. Circe aka Kate confirms this… but we’ll talk about that later.

Back at Ryan and Mary’s apartment, they work with Sophie to help figure out the code on Clue Master daughter’s body. They call in Luke to help, and CM’s daughter and Luke instantly form a bond. He discovers that her name is Stephanie, and they basically have a nerd-flirt-off to figure out the code. The girls leave them to head to the Quiz Bowl set, where Clue Master used to work. While they are there, Mary and Ryan step onto the platform only to discover that it’s a weight-distributed bomb. Thus, they are now trapped and have to play the game. They play the game, win it, and now have 45 minutes to defuse the bomb.

How did this man escape from jail and put this all together the same day? Even Ocean’s Eleven took longer than that. Anyway

Luke and Stephanie are still working to crack the code, when suddenly Stephanie solves it. However, instead of keying in, she knocks him out and takes off. Whoops. The girls try to call Luke to come to Quiz Bowl and help them, but obviously Luke can’t come to the phone right now.

Alice is still being held hostage. Black Mask threatens to kill her, and she reveals that she knows Black Mask is Roman Sionis (Circe Sionis’ father. Duh.) Alice says that if he agrees to let her go, she can give Circe her original face back, to which Roman kind of agrees to.

Back at Quiz Bowl, Sophie basically tells Ryan she knows Ryan is Batwoman, and that they need Batwoman to help them out of this jam. After a lot of arguing, Ryan tells Sophie where the Batcave is and what tools to grab. When Sophie leaves, Ryan and Mary argue about why Mary gave her up to Sophie. Sophie gets to the Batcave and grabs Ryan’s baton (you know, the one we talked about earlier.)

We find Stephanie standing outside of a small house, and her father Clue Master joins her. We find out that it’s her childhood home, and that was the code she cracked. Stephanie tells him that she was the one who turned him in, and that she wants him to go back to jail. He knocks her out with gas; and she wakes up locked in his car alongside him. The gas is flowing, and Clue Master admits he wants to kill them both. Meanwhile, Luke wakes up and cracks the code himself. He runs to the scene, and breaks a car window to get Stephanie out.

Sophie meets Ryan and Mary with the baton and Ryan tells her to run. Ryan then shoots the baton, grabs Mary, and saves the day. As Batwoman should.

Clue Master is taken back to jail; Stephanie and Luke kiss. It’s all very cute.

Mary is back at the clinic trying to get in touch with Kane; she’s worried that he really is on Snake Bite, and knows that he’s lost a lot in the past few years. Right as she’s leaving him a voicemail, nurses come rushing in with Kane on the stretcher. He’s coding from the Snake Bite, and Mary panics trying to save him.

Ryan and Sophie meet at the bar; Sophie explains how she knew Ryan was Batwoman, and how she actually saved Ryan from getting identified as Batwoman by the Crows. Yay! Trust!

Finally, we cut back to Alice working on Circe aka Kate’s new face. She says it won’t be exact, because Circe’s eyes are brown while Circe aka Kate’s eyes are blue. So she knows it’s not really Circe. As Alice puts on Circe’s new face, she recognizes the eyes behind it as none other than… Kate Kane.

And we black out.
