Lez Dish It Out! The AfterEllen Les/Bi News Roundup

We made it through the week, ladies!

I see you getting ready for the weekend. Friday is finally here, and we have the Dish! Sanvers says goodbye, Tig Notaro speaks out, and Tegan and Sara are cartoons this week, so lez get to it!

Sanvers has officially shattered our hearts.

We’ve been dreading the inevitable since Season 3 of Supergirl premiered. Alex and Maggie, and their big, gay wedding they’ve been enthusiastically planning, has come to a sudden, sad, end. As we expected, their individual stances on having children was just not something the pair could overcome. We’ll do a deeper dive into the breakup and what the ramifications for LGBT representation on screen, but for now let’s remember the good times via Floriana Lima’s IG.

Maggie has been a steadfast, authentic lesbian presence throughout her tenure on Supergirl, and she will be missed.  Alex might be the main protagonist in the series, but that doesn’t mean she’s the hero, or the vindicated. What it means is that we have a heartbroken fan base, and another on screen lesbian couple who doesn’t get their happy ending.

Here is Chyler Leigh’s response to the breakup:

And here are some of the fan reactions on Twitter:

The fan love and frustration over the portrayal of Maggie’s character even sparked the hashtag #MaggieMatters.

Ugh, everything really does hurt. Sanvers for life.
