Afternoon Delight: Michelle Williams is “Marilyn,” a first look at “The Hunger Games”

Good afternoon!

Forbes has released their picks for this year’s World’s 100 Most Powerful Women. Which out celebrities made the list? Lady Gaga placed 11th, Angelina Jolie ranked 29 and Ellen DeGeneres came in at 55.

Brokeback Mountain‘s Michelle Williams stars as the one and only Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming BBC film My Week With Marilyn. Check out the film’s movie poster below.

Reminder, if you live in New York or Los Angeles the award-winning lesbian film Circumstance will be released in theaters tomorrow. If the movie is playing near you please head out to support this beautiful film so the studio will be compelled to release it in additional cities and states. Also tomorrow, Zoe Saldana and her film Colombiana head to the big screen.

This morning MTV officially gave me cinematic blue-balls by releasing the uber short Hunger Games “First Look” promo. Come on, guys, I don’t want to see fancy graphics — I want to see Jennifer Lawrence racing around the woods and shooting things with her arrows.

If you love Grey’s Anatomy then you should be happy to know that GA creator Shonda Rhimes is working on her fourth ABC drama. (Fourth? Someone is getting greedy.) The Shondaland production company has just sold their new project, Gilded Lillys. The story will be “set in 1895 and will revolve around the family who owns New York’s first luxury hotel.” Sounds interesting but what if instead of a hotel in New York it was a bed and breakfast in Provincetown, MA and Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw were the innkeepers? (You’re welcome!)

The lovely Anna Paquin is currently in Shreveport, LA shooting the indie comedy Straight A’s. The locals have spotted Paquin shopping in at the grocery store and can’t believe how down to earth she is.

When I’m in line at Trader Joe’s no one thinks I’m down to earth and relatable. They just look in my cart and see that I’m a sugar addict. Straight A’s also stars Ryan Phillippe as a former drug addict who’s mother’s ghost urges him to return to his home in Shreveport. Paquin plays Phillippe’s brother’s wife whom he has feelings for. Hey buddy, having feelings for Paquin isn’t anything new, get it line! No word on when Straight A’s will be released into theaters but we will keep you posted.

After eight years in business, the exclusive LGBT dating site Connexion has decided to shut down. The Connexion staff posted the below statement on their homepage:

After 8 years of operation we have decided to close Connexion on Wednesday September 14. Effective immediately, no new members will be able to join Connexion. This was a tough decision that we know will impact nearly 200,000 members on Connexion and we will miss the community that Connexion has become (and even a few of the flame wars on Q&Q). Though 2011 has been the best year for us in terms of income and site growth it has not been enough to make us profitable. We feel those funds can best be directed towards other philanthropic efforts.

If you live in Los Angeles please join me and comedians Gloria Bigelow, Dana Goldberg, Fortune Feimster, Erin Foley, Sharon Houston, Jackie Monahan, Tracie Walker and Pat Branch on Tuesday, September 27 in support of The Los Angeles Women’s Network (LAWN). The event, which raises money and awareness for women’s services, starts at 7:30pm with a panel discussion, followed by performances and an open bar. If you’re interested head over to

Lesbian/Bi Video of the day

Out comedian/ actress Sandra Bernhard posted an inspirational video encouraging the LGBT community (and others) to be honest about who they truly are. Bernhard, who is currently performing in New England, reminds us that there is an entire network of people that you can reach out to including the celebrity herself.
