June Diane Raphael has scored a recurring role on Fox’s New Girl as Jess’ “smart, slightly intimidating but helpful lesbian friend who is an OB/GYN by day and a skilled archery player by night.” June, for those of you who don’t know her, is a hilarious actress who is also BFF with Casey Wilson (Happy Endings). They are readying their buddy comedy, Ass Backwards, that has a huge lesbian scene and I am still waiting patiently to see it. I’ll probably see June play the OBGYN first! (AKA I’ll have to start watching New Girl.)
Wait — more lesbians on TV? Sandra Bernhard and Laura San Giacomo are coming to Hot in Cleveland as a couple! (I love Laura — she was so good in Sex, Lies and Videotape.) From TVGuide:
“I play Valerie’s [estranged] sister, Caroline,” says Laura. Caroline reveals she’s a lesbian involved with a character played by Sandra Bernhard. Turns out ex-soap star Victoria (Wendie) is pretending to be gay after her fake marriage to Joy (Jane Leeves) reignites her celebrity. “They’re all at this lesbian event where I am, and therein lies the hilarity,” adds Laura.
The episode airs in December. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you.
Heroes star Zachary Quinto came out over the weekend. Yay for making it official, Zach!
Rooney Mara covers the new issue of Vogue and the inside interview is all about her transition into Lisbeth Salander. An excerpt:
“Before, I dressed much girlier,” she says. “A lot of blush-colored things. Now I literally roll out of bed and put on whatever is there. I have really enjoyed being a boy this last year.”
She does say that her new eyebrows were quite a shock at first. I can imagine! If you’re a fan of Rooney’s or The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, it’s a great read.
Photographer Susan Mikula (perhaps better known as the luckiest woman in the world/Rachel Maddow’s partner) is showing her work in Los Angeles staring Oct. 19. Check it out at the George Lawson Gallery and, if you can’t make it there, a book will accompany the exhibition, so you can totally buy that.
