Afternoon Delight: Jennifer Aniston “madly in love” with Chelsea Handler, Ellen named AIDS Envoy

Good afternoon friends!

Happy birthday to Alfre Woodard (Grey’s Anatomy), Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire) and Parker Posey (Tales of the City).

At last night’s Glamour 2011 Women of the Year Awards ceremony Jennifer Aniston declared to the world that she’s madly in love with Chelsea Handler. (Join the club.) Aniston presented an award to the Chelsea Lately host at Carnegie Hall and announced, “I rarely comment on my personal life, but I am here to tell you that I’m madly in love. I’m madly in love with the one and only Chelsea Handler!” They really do make an adorable couple.

Handler accepted her award and said, “I’d like to say you really can do whatever it is you want to do. You just have to get out there and f–king do it! There are … a lot of nos along the way. There are a lot of people who will tell you you can’t do something or you’re not good enough or you’re not pretty enough or skinny enough or your butt’s not as big as J.Lo‘s. I love women. I love supporting women. I love giving women jobs. I love being a woman and being a good friend and a sister, because I’ll never be a mother!”

There are rumors swirling around Hollywood about not one, but three biopics about the late Princess Diana. Jessica Chastain is the latest actress to be up for the iconic role in Caught in Flight. Last year Charlize Theron (Monster) was rumored to play the princess in Closely Guarded Secret, based on the book by Ken Wharfe (Diana’s former bodyguard) and Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley were both considered for the title role in Diana. Do you want to see a biopic about Princess Diana? And if so, which actress do you think should wear the crown?

Jodie Foster won her second best actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Clarice Starling opposite the eerie cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Silence of Lambs. Get ready because Dr. Lecter is headed to the small screen. (Gulp!) NBC has purchased an hour-long drama project entitled Hannibal. No word if the character of Clarice Starling will appear in the series, but I really hope she does.

Bunny mogul Hugh Hefner spoke with The Insider about Lindsay Lohan‘s upcoming January/February issue of Playboy magazine. Hefner said, “It’s a classic tribute inspired by the original Tom Kelly nude pictorial of Marilyn Monroe, a portion of which was the original playmate in the very first issue of Playboy. Oh yes. And classy, very classy.” Classy, huh? We’ll see.

The Huffington Post has named the top 30 most powerful LGBT celebrities on Twitter, with Lady Gaga taking the top honors and Ellen DeGeneres claiming the number two spot. Rachel Maddow placed eighth and Suze Orman came in as lucky number 13.

Speaking of DeGeneres, the Emmy award-winning talk show host was recently named AIDS Envoy by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Obama administration will give an additional $60 million to fund to fight against AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and DeGeneres is on board to raise global awareness for this deadly disease.

This morning, I received an email inviting me to Boston’s new adult re-telling of The Nutcracker, called The Slutcracker. Out performer Maria Kogan (All the King’s Men) is one of the stars of the show, which Amanda Palmer says is, “Better than Cats.” Although I will not be able to attend this festive event, I hope someone does and reports back to us about it.
