Morning Brew – Mon. Oct. 8: “The L Word” character based on Lindsay Lohan, Sophie B. Hawkins plays Janis Joplin

Good morning!

Out singer Sophie B. Hawkins is playing Janis Joplin in a new musical about her called Room 105: The Highs and Lows of Janice Joplin. Sophie’s partner Gigi Gaston wrote the production, which is playing in Los Angeles all October. Apparently Janis’ one-time girlfriend Peggy Caserta is coming to the show.

Lacey Turner told The Sun about how she wants her lesbian role in Switch to be believable.

It was really important to me to believe that Stella really is a lesbian. I didn’t want her to look like someone who is pretending to be gay. I’m not that way inclined and I’ve never felt the urge to kiss a girl so I did think about it and wonder what the scenes would be like. But luckily Rosamund doesn’t really have any fear. So she said to me, “Let’s really go for it” and that’s what we did. I had to kiss a girl but in the end it was no different to kissing a boy. Their lips are no different. So it didn’t really affect me at all. Stella hasn’t been in a relationship for five years. I don’t know whether you’d say she finds love – but she has a right good go at it.

OK, I’m ready for this show. Lez do it, October 15!

New York politician Christine Quinn and her wife’s home were featured in The New York Times. She also shares some personal tidbits like this one:

Essential gadget: Earphones for the television. They are the key to a successful relationship, because Kim likes to read, and I watch television. So Kim’s father got me the earphones.

In my house it’s more like video games and reading, but I’ve learned to tune it out.

In case you were wondering if Niki Stevens was based on Lindsay Lohan, she was. Kate French told a fan on Twitter her L Word role was inspired by Angela Robinson’s time working with Lilo on Herbie Fully Loaded.

This brings up many questions. Is Jenny Schecter supposed to be Samantha Ronson? Did Lindsay hook up with Angela on set?
