As we told you in New Music Tuesday, Hunter Valentine released their third full-length album Collide & Conquer today. It might as well be their first album, though, as the band is a completely new entity now. With Veronica “Vero” Sanchez on bass and the latest addition of Aimee Bessada on guitar/keyboard, Hunter Valentine have solidified their brand of modern rock ‘n roll. There are hints of metal, punk, soul and riot grrrl on the LP, which was written and recorded with Somer Bingham before she left the band, and founding members Kiyomi McCloskey and Laura Petracca prove they didn’t lose their passion for music after becoming reality stars.
Having seen the band play in Portland when they came through this past weekend, I can assure you they looked and sounded better than I’ve ever seen them, and the crowd was more than excited to share the energy with them. If there’s any Real L Word effect happening for the band, it’s in the amount of new interest in seeing what the women can do on stage. If anyone left unimpressed, then they were there for the wrong reasons.
