Morning Brew – Mon. June 3: Beth Ditto gets married, Joanna Johnson is writing “The Fosters”

Good morning! And Happy June.

Teen Wolf will be getting a queer female character in the third episode of its new season. That’s all we know so far, but damn that’s exciting. Will she have her shirt off like all the boys on the show do?

Heather Hogan wanted me to let you all know that it is Double Jaime Murray Monday on Syfy with Defiance at 9:00 p.m. followed by Warehouse 13 at 10:00. The actress be live-tweeting both, so you can tweet along with her.

This week’s Modern Love in The New York Times was written by a woman whose husband donated sperm to a lesbian couple so that they could have a child. Heart-wrenching!

A huge congrats to Beth Ditto and Kristin Ogata who got married in Hawaii this weekend! Right before the ceremony she told Yahoo! how it would go down:

We found this really beautiful place that used to be a sugar plantation that was owned by the workers. It’s on Maui. It’s going to be super-traditional, but untraditional in the way that it’s going to be done by a Hawaiian priestess. Isn’t that awesome? She’ll be overseeing it, calling the ancestors. It’s going to be really spiritual and cool, and like, lesbian and really female-centric. And awesome.

Beth wore a Jean-Paul Gaultier gown and her guests wore white.

Variety is hoping that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany gets an Emmy nod this year. I’m sure many of you would agree!

If you watched Arrested Development‘s new season and hoped Ellen DeGeneres would make a cameo, you are not alone. In fact, the show’s creator wanted her there too! Portia de Rossi told Pop Tarts:

Mitch [Hurwitz, creator] wanted her to be a part of this but it didn’t come to fruition. But I would want her to play herself.

Looks like Sue Perkins is single and that she used to date actress Emma Kennedy, who is opening about her sexuality publicly for the first time in Diva this month where she also talks about crushing on Emma Thompson. Wouldn’t be the first time a lesbian couple shared the same name!

Do you need one more reason to watch The Fosters tonight? Joanna Johnson is one of the show’s executive producers and head writers. She talked with TV Guide about what she’s calling her “Gayest Year Ever.”

The same day my last show, Emily Owens, M.D., got cancelled I started getting emails from friends saying, “The Fosters is perfect for you!” They needed someone to help the creators, Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg, run the show — and who better than me because this show is my life! I’m married to a woman and we have two adopted, multi-racial children. [Laughs] It’s the same story!

Awesome for The Fosters, not so great for The Bold and the Beautiful! Joanna said she’s not going to show up on the soap much because she’s too dang busy.
