Morning Brew – Mon. July 1: Kalinda’s new love interest, SyFy celebrates Gayliens on “Defiance”

Good morning! Pride may be over, but we can still be proud year-round.

SyFy loves our use of #Gayliens so much, they used it in this Best Defiance moments countdown.

Juliet Rylance has been cast as a “possible love interest” for Kalinda on The Good Wife. She’ll be playing “Holly, a whip-smart Assistant State’s Attorney who shares a past with Kalinda.” Yay! I love Kalinda’s GFs from the past.

I hope you have better friends than the girl who wrote this: How Not to be a Dick to Your Lesbian Friends.

Indiewire reports that Blue is the Warmest Color is “not likely” to enter the Oscar race this year because of when it will be released. By the next year when its eligible, it will have lost momentum for much-needed Oscar buzz. It’s all about timing.

If you haven’t been watching Real Housewives of New Jersey, you’ve been missing out on Rosie’s wrath! She took Teresa to town this week.

Yahoo posted this piece on “Why Women are More Likely to be Bisexual.” Apparently the researcher who is part of this study thinks one reason is “that women who have lower ‘mate value’ – that is, are less attractive mates for males – would be likelier to be bisexual.” Everyone knows you’re only bisexual or a lesbian if you can’t find a boyfriend.

ThinkProgress talked with Ray Donovan creator Ann Biderman and she talked about Kate Moennig’s lesbian character:

I think for her character, for Lena, I think she’s had a scandal that she kind of couldn’t get past, that kind of ruined one version of her life and kind of made her need to really turn a corner and do something else, which we’ll get into a little bit.

Can’t wait!

Clea DuVall has joined the Lifetime movie about Lizzie Borden. She’ll play Lizzie’s sister, aka Christina Ricci’s sister since that’s who is in the title role. Exciting!

Lea Michele tweeted a pic from the set of Glee.

“Dear Annie, I’m a straight female senior citizen with totally white hair. Although I think I am still quite attractive, I do look like a senior citizen. I would like to know whether there is any truth to a rumor I recently heard that today’s lesbians are attracted to older women with white hair.” WHERE DO PEOPLE GET THESE IDEAS?

In case you’re wondering, Brett Ratner is very proud of himself for supporting Christine Quinn.

Eileen Myles explained to Lit POP why she never wanted to be published a “female press” or a “queer press.”

I’m not a marginalized writer and I don’t think the writers gay presses or women’s presses publish are marginalized. But personally I’ve preferred not to work with a press that stands for this or that because I like being the writer you pick up and you discover that they’re queer and that it’s doing something you didn’t think say a lesbian writer would do, and so on. The existence of a female press suggests to me that we must be protected. All writers need protection. I’d rather rot.
