Morning Brew – Mary Lambert shares a secret on “Take Part Live”

Good morning! In honor of her new album this week, today’s #TBT is Melissa Etheridge (with kd lang).

Melissa Etheridge

Speaking of kd, these Feminist Playing Cards are seriously necessary. (Thanks Jill!)

Fit For Rivals kicks off their tour tomorrow in Detroit.

Even though it’s cool to have lesbian couples at Hester High, it’s definitely still a problem in Arizona. Sigh.

Jennifer Knapp has released a trailer for new memoir, Facing the Music, out next Tuesday.

Glamour has an excerpt from Lena Dunham‘s Not That Kind of Girl where she talks about getting a (gay) sister. She also read from the intro on Fresh Air are suing their sperm bank for mistakenly giving them sperm from the wrong donor. How do they know? Well, the baby came out biracial and now they are saying this is a huge struggle for them. I feel for them not receiving the donor they chose, but the way they speak about the “hardships” they face with their child is really, truly sad. (They say they’re worried about how 2-year-old Payton will grow up in an “all-white environment” where even her own family is cautious of her parents’ same-sex relationship. Their child is also driven to a “black neighborhood” just to get a haircut. The lawsuit claims Cramblett is not welcome in those neighborhoods because “she is obviously different in appearance.”)

Mary Lambert went on Take Part Live last night and spoke about growing up gay and Christian. Also, she shared a secret: She auditioned for American Idol when she was 16. Who knew!?

Miss USA 2013 Erin Brady stars in the new music video from RunJenny, and the pageant queen takes a liking to a lady after breaking up with her boyfriend.

Ladies, you’ll have to start stepping your proposal game up. Kriss Marr asked Lauren-Joy Goss to marry her by creating a musical about their relationship and inviting her to the performance. I love that dedication.
