“Fringe” gets renewed, “Life” is cancelled, and “L&O: SVU” will return “with or without it stars”

After NBC announced the renewal of several shows today (including Parks and Recreation, Weekend Update on primetime, and Heroes), the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Life has been canceled.

That’s right: No more Sarah Shahi on a weekly basis.

Hasn’t this happened to us before?

Chuck is one of the shows still up for renewal, but will not be decided upon until mid-May. NBC is really playing hard-to-get.

Another odd announcement from the station is that Law and Order: SVU will definitely return — with or without Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. Rumor has it that the show’s stars were waiting on contract renewals and money was an issue.

As a fan of the show, I can’t say whether I would be willing to watch without Mariska. The episodes she took for maternity leave were unbearable enough!

In possibly the only really fabulous news of the day, Fox has announced that Fringe will definitely get a new season. Anna Torv fans can breathe easy.

Several new NBC shows have been picked up for fall, including Parenthood and Mercy, starring Michelle Trachtenberg. They will be replacing the likes of Lipstick Jungle, Kath & Kim, Knight Rider and Life. Sigh. R.I.P. Life.
