Heather Matarazzo lends her name to Levis for gay and lesbian teens

Out actress Heather Matarazzo has just teamed up with Levi’s for their new Give Them Hope campaign, which is raising money for Hetrick-Martin Institute, the home of Harvey Milk High School.

The goal of the campaign, which Levi’s launched this week, is to help support at-risk LGBTQ youth at the institute by establishing the Liquidity Reserve Fund, to help cover expenseses that may not be able to be paid for through other fundraising efforts. Every $10 that is donated helps support one of these at-risk youth.

Give Them Hope aims to raise $500,000 for the Liquidity Reserve Fund. Since it launched this week, it’s raised nearly $40,000 so far.

In the promo video for the campaign, Matarazzo, who is also a Hetrick-Martin Institute ambassador says, “I feel that since I’ve become at home with myself and who I am, I’ve become at home with the world.”

In addition to Matarazzo, Give Them Hope features a handful of HMI students, alums and board members, who share their stories that illustrate the importance of such a place. Beatriz, a 20-year-old HMI alum, says “I felt that if I wasn’t at HMI, I definitely wouldn’t have a safe space.”
