Brazilian Lesbian-Themed Web Series “RED” Just Released Season 3!

The sexy, emotionally-charged Brazilian series RED caught our attention back in 2014 when it was nominated for Best Foreign Language series at the New York Web Festival. Last year, season two left us with some dramatic cliffhangers, and we’ve been waiting to see the passion between characters Liz and Mel unfold in a third season. Well, today, we are getting what we hoped for with a RED season 3! If you aren’t familiar with the series, a brief synopsis directly from the producers:

RED is the first Brazilian lesbian-themed series, which premiered in September 2014 on Vimeo. The series tells us the story of Mel Be?üart and Liz Malmo, two actresses who meet each other during the shootings of a short-film and end up bringing to their real lives the love story they portray in fiction as Scarlett and Simone. Each season has eight episodes of eight minutes each with English and Spanish subtitles.

The writers of the show — Viv Schiller and Germana Belo — were motivated by the lack of films and series discussing the relationship between people of the same gender in a direct and realistic manner, not only in Brazil but in other parts of the world. Inspired by shows like “The L World” and “Orange Is The New Black”, they teamed up with director Fernando Belo and decided to share their own take on the subject.

If you haven’t yet seen seasons one and two, you can watch those on the series Vimeo channel, HERE, and be sure to read the AfterEllen recap of season two’s series finale, and watch that emotionally-charged episode right here:

Season 3 will have 10 episodes (9-10 min long) and will be released every Tuesday on the RED series Vimeo channel, with free streaming. On demand will also be available for instant access to the full season. English subtitles are available for non Portuguese-speaking viewers.
