Morning Brew: Monday, May 3

Hey you! Great to see you here today.

The big news of the day/week/month is that country singer Chely Wright is the celebrity coming out this week in People magazine. The 39-year-old vocalist is releasing her fourth album tomorrow, as well as a memoir, Like Me.

Chely told People:

There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality. I wasn’t going to be the first.

I have a feeling Jennifer Knapp and Chely have a few things in common. One of those things is the fact that being true to themselves is most important to them. Wright told People, “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out,” she says. Congrats Chely! We’ll continue coverage of her public coming out this week.

Actress Lynn Redgrave passed away yesterday at the age of 67. Among her many roles on stage, screen and television was her performance in My Two Loves (1986), co-starring Mariette Hartley and co-written by out author Rita Mae Brown. The TV movie told the story of a recently widowed woman (Hartley) who begins a relationship with her female co-worker, played by Redgrave. It was one of the few depictions of a lesbian relationship on television at the time.

Poor Josie Smith-Malave of Top Chef was number 7 on a list of 10 Worst Food Show Haircuts by the Village Voice. Luckily, all the other lesbian chefs remained unscathed.

Speaking of The Voice, they have a gallery called “Sapphic Romance,” dedicated to all their nightlife photography featuring girls looking very into each other. Some images are NSFW and some are NAL — Not Actually Lesbians.

Courtney Love told Howard Stern that she once had an affair with a female supermodel but wouldn’t say who. However it is not “Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bündchen or Janice Dickinson.” OK so none of the straight women. We got that one figured out!

Good news Guiding Light fans! Former stars Liz Keifer and Orlagh Cassidy are going to play lesbians in the movie La Lumiere. Writer/directors Beth Chamberlin and Tina Sloan recently Tweeted the good news:

Thanks for the tip giftofamber!

Rihanna is working on her video for the Sapphic song “Te Amo,” which also stars French supermodel Laetitia Casta Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

Lastly, here’s a little Gal Pals update for those who watched!

See you later!
