Megan Fox gets adventurous

Megan Fox must really be into comics. She’s set to star in and help develop the film Fathom, an underwater adventure based on the Atomic comic, and she’s in final negotiations to join Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in the Warner Bros. Western action flick, Jonah Hex, based on the DC Comics’ character.

And there’s the new Transformers, of course.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, in Jonah Hex, Fox will play Leila, “a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin).” Filming is schedule to begin next month.

While it’ll be interesting to see how Fox pulls off a gun holster, it’s her role in Fathom that sounds most interesting.

The underwater film follows Fox’s character, Aspen, who finds out she belongs to a race of “aquatic humanoids who possess the ability to control water.” Wow. Control water? I’ve always wanted to do that. It’s been right up there with learn to fly, become invisible or read minds. Why be able to tell exactly what your girlfriend is thinking when you can just turn her shower off?

Based on the comic by recently deceased Michael Turner, the film was at one point on deck with James Cameron‘s Lightstorm Entertainment, but stalled. When a new producer finally picked it up, it got Fox’s attention, as she’d been a fan of the comic since it debuted in 1998 (when it was the best-selling comic of the year). Now, Fox is helping to “shape the adaptation,” proving she’s much more than a pretty face that graces countless magazine covers.

Before any of us see these new films, we will see Fox in the Transformers sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, this summer, as well as in Diablo Cody‘s Jennifer’s Body, slated for the fall. Can you think of any other comic movies she’d be good in, or should she move on to something completely different?
