“Jack and Diane” trades out Olivia Thirlby for Riley Keough

When Jack & Diane finally goes into production, I will breathe a sigh of relief. The lesbian werewolf film has been playing merry-go-round with female stars to play the lead couple. Initially (in 2007!) it was Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby. Then Ellen was too busy making more money and Allison Pill took on the role of Diane. But then we found out Juno Temple would replace her and we thought we finally had our love story in place.

Until today, when Bloody-Disgusting.com let us know that Olivia has dropped out, and Riley Keough will now be playing Jack. Riley is a model/actress who had a bit part in The Runaways as Dakota Fanning‘s twin sister and is also known for being Lisa Marie Presley‘s daughter. The site reports that other castmates include Cara Seymour,Dane DeHaan and Michael Chernus and details the plot as such:

Jack and Diane, two teenage girls, meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.
You remember that, though, right? I think we’ve all been waiting on Jack & Diane to happen for a while now, and the good news is that production will finally begin in June.

So what do you think about this pairing? I would like if one of them dyes their hair so I can keep them apart.

It would appear that the problem became money and scheduling after such a long time. It’s OK, Ellen – get to work on Freeheld‘s feature adaptation and I’ll forgive you.
