There’s something about Hozier‘s “Take Me to Church” that really lends itself well to covers. There have been quite a few already, including great versions by Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran, but Demi Lovato‘stake might be up there near the top.
Lovato’s version is soulful, angsty and uses the original pronouns, making this cover so very queertastic. It also gives Demi a chance to show off her solid lower range, and get a little playful with her delivery. We have given Demi a bit of a tongue lashing recently for minimizing lesbianism and bisexuality in “Cool for the Summer” but this cover might just be something we want to tell our mothers about.
Yessss, girl, take us to church. You know a singer means business when they close their eyes for the majority of the song. Amen.
