Alyson Hannigan, Aisha Tyler and Rachel Maddow battle scientists and other smart people for Sexiest Geek

Geeks are hot.

Isn’t the word “geek” itself kind of like “dyke”? It used to be an insult, but now we’ve reclaimed it to say, “Yeah, that’s right — I’m smart/gay, and it’s totally awesome.” Being a geek puts you in good company with intelligent people who wear glasses and have opinions and starred as Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

That’s right — Alyson Hannigan: geek. A well-liked one, apparently, because she’s up for Wired magazine’s award of Sexiest Geek of 2008. But she’s got some stiff competiton: Tina Fey, Zooey Deschanel, Danica McKellar, Jeri Ryan, Aisha Tyler, Mila Kunis and Rachel Maddow are also up for the title.

Wired, are you sure there can only be one sexiest geek?

The nominees are not just celebs, however. Marie Curie is on the list (with the comment “The original geek chic”), as well as economic analyst Naomi Klein, Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond and the women’s world chess champion, Alexandra Kosteniuk.

Of course, considering these women all have very strong credentials, photos accompany their write-ups to aid in the voting process.

Still, so hard to decide on just one — especially with the list continuing to grow. You can vote on your favorite or add your own nominee at the site, until they announce who has won the title of Sexiest Geek.

Who do you think should win? I can tell you who I think shouldn’t win (or even be included on the list) — Scarlett Johansson. Agree or disagree?
