Hillary Clinton Honored with LGBT Center’s Trailblazer Award in NYC

Our favorite champion of women’s rights may not be President of the United States, but she’s still blazing new trails. Last night Hillary Clinton was presented with the Trailblazer Award at New York City’s LGBT Center. “I will say again what I said in 2011,” said the former Secretary of State in her speech at the center’s fundraiser. “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights once and for all.” She goes on to address the reality that the Trump administration will not be the one to count on to lead on LGBT issues, before reminding the crowd about the 2018 mid-term elections.

Greeting a star-studded audience, Clinton charmingly jokes about having to choose between the center dinner and an invitation she received to see Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly! on the same night. “I struck a compromise.,” she teases. “I put on my Sunday clothes and here I am.”

Tactful as always, Clinton’s remarks flow seamlessly between humor and addressing serious issues. She blasts Trump for his poor cabinet picks, and acknowledges what’s at stake for LGBT Americans and the future of the Supreme Court.
