Jane Lynch talks about married life with “More”

Whether you know Jane Lynch as the cutthroat lawyer Joyce Wichnyia on The L Word or perhaps for her Emmy award-winning role as Sue Sylvester, the abrasive, sarcastic cheerleading coach on Fox’s Glee, you might not know is that Lynch used to consider herself anything but the marrying kind.

“I shouldn’t say this, but I’d never dated anyone that I wanted to marry,” Lynch told MORE magazine this month. “I didn’t think it was going to be out there for me. But the minute we were married, I felt the difference: I felt like I am no longer alone.” Lynch met wife Lara Embry at a lesbian rights fundraiser over a year ago and they hit it off right away – so much so that Lynch was on a plane a week later to spend time with her. Embry proposed after six months of dating and the two were married in May of this year.

As this month’s cover model for More, Lynch also talks about working on renovating her home to make room for her new wife and her 8-year-old daughter, with whom Lynch says she gets along very well. “I took her to school. I picked her up. I went to lunch with her. So I kind of had a test run. We’re pretty darn good together,” she said.

In the same interview, Lynch also disclosed that she decided to become sober back in 1991, at the age of 31, when she realized she was getting drunk every night and spent most of her days hungover. One day she poured out her glass of wine and never drank again. “Relatively speaking, my personal bottom was rather benign” Lynch said, who mentioned she used to attend 12-step meetings. “Had I known I’d be telling my story over and over again, I would have made it a lot better.”
