Remember last week when I told you that Stevie Nicks visited the set of Glee? Turns out her visit was linked to the use of one of her songs in the big Brittana re-kindling episode set to air on March 8. I’m guessing the “Landslide” will bring them down (in a good way).
Speaking of Glee, the shows co-creators, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, are producing a new hour-long drama pilot for FX titled American Horror Story. According to TVLine.com, Falchuk says it’s a horror show with “subversive sensibilities.” So super gay, right?
Here’s a teaser for episode of two of the new tello Films web series Cowgirl Up: Essence magazine‘s March 2011 issue breaks new ground by publishing a “four-page article in which a Black, active duty, female servicemember details her life as a lesbian living under the discriminatory and now-thankfully-repealed Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) policy.” Essence also teamed up with the National Black Justice Coalition in developing the piece. The NBJ reports some sobering statistics, including that “in 2003, the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) released a study that said Black women were discharged from the military under DADT at three times the rate at which they served. SLDN reported that although Black females only made up 1.1 percent of all servicemembers, they represented 3.3 percent of those discharged under DADT.” Pick up the new issue of Essence for more info.
Outimpact.com has an inspirational interview with Sarah Lindstrom, the Minneapolis teen who, along with her girlfriend, Desiree Shelton, was voted into the royalty court of her high school for Snow Days Pep Fest and had to fight for the right to walk together alongside their heterosexual classmates.
Outfest has announced its lineup for Fusion: The Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival, and it features some of my favorite filmmakers. The festival will run March 4- 5 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and includes Anna Margarita Albelo‘s documentary Hooters: The Making of Older, Wiser Lesbian Cinema and “Behind the Scenes: Pariah,” an extended discussion with writer/director Dee Rees and producer Nekisa Cooper, as well as a whole program of short films. All of that and a The Wiz Sing-a-Long? It sounds too good to be true.
PeachesChrist.com has a nifty interview with out filmmaker (and our own Toosday Toons columnist) Stacie Ponder. She talks about she got into horror, her Ghostella’s Haunted Tomb webseries and her first feature film, Ludlow.
Here’s the trailer for Ludlow, starring Shannon Lark: The makers of Between Starshine and Clay, “a participatory documentary project chronicling the transformation of family within gender variant communities of color” are looking for subjects for their film. According to their forum post on this site, “the project reveals the celebrations and struggles of creating and sustaining families, it delves into the lives and experiences of parents of color who were assigned female at birth and now identify as trans-masculine, trans-men, men, butch, stud, trans-boi, boi, gender-queer, AG/Aggressive, transsexual, androgynous, exploring, yang-centered, etc.”
