Queen Latifah, who came out publicly during her Lifetime Achievement Award coronation at the 2021 BET awards, will star in Netflix’s upcoming thriller movie, End of the Road. The award-winning rapper, actress and singer will act alongside Chris “Ludacris” Bridges in the film.
Netflix’s synopsis of End of the Road reads: “Recently widowed mom Brenda fights to protect her family during a harrowing road trip when a murder and a missing bag of cash plunge them into danger.”
Netflix uploaded its first trailer on YouTube a couple of weeks ago:
The trailer’s caption teased more information about End of the Road. “Queen Latifah and Chris Bridges star in this road trip thriller about a mom of two kids who relocates across the country with her kids and brother. The family’s move to the southland is thrown into complete chaos when they witness a murder on their road trip. Now, the murderer will stop at nothing to find them.”
The trailer shows Brenda (Latifah) and her family travelling on a deserted highway, discussing how uncomfortable it feels for Black people to be in this “Area 51 shit.” Brenda soothes her family, saying Destiny’s Child came from Houston.
The road trip soon takes a harrowing turn, when a murder and a missing bag of cash means the family has to fight for their lives. Becoming targets of a mysterious killer, End of the Road serves Taken vibes when the enemy steals Brenda’s kid and toys with her over the phone.
End of the Road is produced by Tracey Edmonds, Marg Burg and Brad Kaplan. Queen Latifah, along with longtime business partner and friend Shakim Compere, are also executive producers in the action-packed thriller.
We know that Queen Latifah won’t die in the film because the actor has had a “no death scene clause” in her movie contracts since the early 2000s (at least). She spoke to James Corden, on the Late Show With James Cordon, about it in 2017:
“When I first started doing movies, I always had these death scenes,” Latifah explained. “In Set It Off, I got killed; in Sphere, I got killed. And apparently, I died too well.”
She began seeing her frequent death scenes as a disadvantage to her acting career. “And then I caught on: If I die too well, then I can’t be in the sequel! Get my agent on the phone and we will put a ‘no die’ clause in these future movie contracts.”
End of the Road will be available on Netflix from September 8.
