“Right person, wrong time”: JoJo Siwa Announces Split From Kylie Prew

Kylie and JoJo

JoJo Siwa, who lightened up the pandemic’s heavy mood by coming out earlier this year, has confirmed that she and Kylie Prew have broken up. “I have yet to talk about this officially, publicly, but we broke up,” JoJo confessed on Paris Hilton’s podcast This is Paris. After almost one year of dating — and loads of cute pictures I’m sure we’ll miss popping up in our newsfeeds — it was a case of being too busy and “right person, wrong time.”

Unsurprisingly, JoJo and Kylie didn’t end the relationship with any bad blood. “She is literally still my best friend,” JoJo said. “I talked to her yesterday; she just got a new puppy. She’s awesome. She’s having the time of her life; I’m having the time of my life.” Ah, the old remaining friends post-breakup. It’s great to see that the stereotypes of sapphic relationships are alive and well! I joke; if anything, lesbians and bisexual women being likely to remain friends with their exes just demonstrates a higher level of trust, respect and emotional maturity in those relationships.

JoJo and Kylie

JoJo’s relieved Kylie is on the same page about remaining close friends. “I’m really lucky that I didn’t lose her completely because, you know, even though relationships end, friendships don’t have to end,” JoJo said. “I was very happy that it can be [that way] because that’s all I wanted. But I’m really happy that I remember all the fun times, all the good times, and nothing bad happened; it just is the definition of a cheesy saying of ‘right person, wrong time,’ and I hate cheesy sayings, but they’re true.”

“We’re both so young; she’s 17, I’m 18, and we are literally best friends. And I would take a bullet for her, and I know she would do the same for me. We just — literally, right person, wrong time.”

It’s clear that JoJo and Kylie’s relationship, at its core, was based on an impenetrably tight bond, even if it turned purely friendship-based. It seems like the perfect type of relationship for young lesbian and bi women to learn in, even if it wasn’t destined for death ‘til we part. The relationships we have at 18-years-old can positively or negatively affect the way we trust other people, believe in love, and/or approach relationships in the future. I’m thrilled JoJo and Kylie’s experience was positive.

JoJo’s not lying when she says she has a “hectic schedule.” Whether it be creating reality TV shows or competing on Dancing With the Stars, she’s always on the go! I’m not surprised she claims to have no time for a relationship.
