Tegan and Sara Announce New Album “Crybaby”

Tegan and Sara in the “Yellow” Film Clip

Tegan and Sara’s tenth album Crybaby is on the way! Crybaby is the first album since the twins signed with Mom + Pop and it is due on October 21st.

“Yellow,” a song on the upcoming album, pays homage to Coldplay’s 2000 song. “Yellow’s” film clip, directed by Mark Myers, is a throwback to Coldplay’s, where the twins walk along the beach and sing into the camera like Chris Martin.

“This bruise ain’t black it’s yellow,” the twins sing the chorus “My sweet heart breaks, so be careful/But this paint ain’t red, now it’s a yellow/My sweet heart sings out like a devil.”

I’m not gonna lie, I really, really love this song.

“Yellow” is about healing old wounds. “[The song] was written after we began to take steps to heal the bruises we have both carried with us since adolescence and early adulthood—wounds that never quite healed right and flare up seasonally, sending us spiraling backward in time,” Sara Quin said in a statement. “Are we doomed to remain forever 15, breaking up and breaking apart? I hope not.”

“This was the first time where, while we were still drafting our demos, we were thinking about how the songs were going to work together,” Tegan Quin added. “It wasn’t even just that Sara was making lyric changes or reorganizing the parts to my songs, it was that she was also saying to me, “This song is going to be faster,” or “It’s going to be in a different key.” But Sara effectively improves everything of mine that she works on.”

The Quin sisters have already dropped another song, “Fucking Up What Matters,” that will be featured on the new album.

Tegan Quin said that the song “felt like an ode to the moment in your life when you realize that you have most, if not all of the things you wanted and you start to think about what would happen if you just walked away from it all, it’s the moment in the middle of the night when you start to daydream about something else, something you never imagined.”

Ending on even more good news, Tegan and Sara’s long-awaited series High School, an adaptation of their 2019 memoir of the same name, is coming to Amazon Freevee later this year!
