Gaytime TV: “The Bold and the Beautiful” recap – “You could use a little cooling off!”

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve seen our Bold and the Beautiful lesbians, and this week we only had a brief moment with Dani (Crystal Chappell). Still, we’ll take what we can get.

Dani walks in on Caroline and Thomas making out in their bathing suits. “You two look like you could use a little cooling off!” she says, giving her daughter the side eye. Awkward! I mean, why are they making out in the living room anyway? Caroline and Thomas explain they were just in the pool, but Dani has other ideas. “You know it’s rather nice at the beach! We’ve got your room all set up for you. We would love to have you move back home.”

Mooooommmm. “Karen’s been away on business,” Dani says. “I miss my daughter! I’m so used to seeing you every day.” Caroline explains she and Thomas are just so busy together, solving crimes and things. How could she possibly move back with her lesbian moms by the beach when she is helping the people of Los Angeles not be framed for hit and runs?

Dani and Thomas give her an update on what they’ve been doing. Geez, Dani really is being left out of her daughter’s life. Maybe Caroline should at least call home once in a while. “You make a good team,” Dani says.

Thomas says he needs to call Stephanie to check up on her. She’s having “guy problems.” They start discussing the Hope-Stephie-Liam love triangle and Thomas says he thinks Stephie and Liam are the right match. “Don’t hold it against us?” he asks Dani. She shakes her head. She doesn’t give a shit – she just wants her daughter to remember where she came from.

And that was it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’re going to have a lot more going on for Karen and Dani in the near future, either. Joanna Johnson is producing the CW’s Emily Owens M.D. and when I chatted with Heather Tom at TCA’s CBS daytime panel, she said she didn’t know anything either. Heather plays Katie, Karen’s sister-in-law who was relieved when Dani and Karen came out as a couple.

“I don’t know where they’re going. I know they’re keeping them around, which I’m thrilled about,” Heather said. “I love Joanna, I think she’s awesome. And I love Crystal, I think she’s a wonderful actress. I’m glad they’re growing the Spencer clan. I’m glad they’re beefing us up a little bit.” Heather was also happy with how the whole “Karen coming out to her family” storyline went down.

“I was thrilled. I think it’s about time we had some gay characters on the show and I think it makes sense,” Heather said. “And I’m glad they are approaching the storyline the way they are, in a very contemporary way. No one is like freaking out. It was nice! I was like ‘Oh thank god they’re not having anyone freak out about this.’ I was like, this show takes places in Los Angeles; you can’t swing a dead cat around here without hitting someone gay!”

So here’s hoping Dani and Karen will be back sooner than later.
