“Grey’s Anatomy” recap: “I Saw Her Standing There” (Ep. 9.4)

On this week’s Grey’s Anatomy, “I Saw Her Standing There,” it’s sexy-times for the medical staff at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital.

Whether it be Meredith and Derek, Cristina and Dr. Parker, April and Avery or Richard and Catherine Avery (played by Debbie “5-6-7-8” Allen), these doctors are getting their freak on.

Sadly, Arizona is still mad and constantly yelling at Callie. So the lovely and sad Dr. Torres retreats to Mark’s old apartment for solitude.

Back at the hospital Richard and Catherine are working on trying to reduce a patient’s enormous basketball-sized testicles. (Gross.)

Owen is still moping around without Cristina. He’s not sleeping and has finally come to terms with the fact that Cristina is most likely not moving back to Seattle. (Dear Owen, Cristina is sleeping with Dr. Parker. Love, Bridget)

With Derek’s hand out of whack, he has resigned himself to teaching, which he claims to hate. Feeling guilty that she can operate and her husband can’t, Meredith hides her surgeries from Derek and downplays her successes. (Sounds like a healthy marriage to me.)

Cristina and her new BFF, the elderly Dr. Thomas, are chummy in and out of the OR. Cristina figures out that the reason her new sex-pal Dr. Parker has paired her and Dr. Thomas up is to force Dr. Thomas into retirement. Dr. Thomas’s techniques are outdated while Cristina represents the new age of operating. Cristina convinces Dr. Thomas to try a new technique to prove he’s up to the challenge and, luckily, with Cristina’s help, the surgery is a success. Cristina blows off Dr. Parker’s invitation for sex to have a drink with her real companion, Dr. Thomas. (Dear Owen, Never mind. Cristina is no longer sleeping with Dr. Parker. Love, Bridget)

Arizona returned to the hospital this week as a patient. She is finally getting fitted for a prosthetic leg by a sweet doctor played Ethan Embry.

At first, Arizona is all piss and vinegar and refuses to try out and use her new limb. Finally Arizona stands on her new leg and just at that moment Alex walks in, which causes her to fall. (He’s such a f–k up!)

Alex catches Arizona and let’s her know, “We need you back.”

Avery figures out that Richard is sexing-up his mother and insists that they have a man-to-man chat. It’s the same ol’ “if you hurt her, I’ll hurt you” threat, but Richard tells him that he has no intention of hurting Catherine. He also warns Avery that if they have a throw down, Richard will win. (When did Richard turn into Dirty Harry?)

The best way to deal with your mommy issues to sleep with your co-worker, right? And that’s exactly what Avery does with April. (I know I’ve said it before but I have to say it again, that on-call room needs to be sterilized!)

In the end, Callie sets up Sofia and Arizona for the night and plans to head back over to Mark’s apartment. Arizona puts out an olive branch by lifting her blanket and inviting Callie to watch TV with her on the couch. Callie and Arizona sit together and although their body language shows that they have a long way to go to mend their relationship, at least the journey back has started.
