Morning Brew – Jenna Lyons makes VANITY FAIR’s International Best Dressed list

Good morning!

If you’re in NYC, tickets for Fun Home: The Musical are now available to see it when it opens at the Public Theater in October. Speaking of the Alison Bechdel graphic novel, it’s been chosen by a South Carolina college as part of required reading for a course and some people are up in arms about it because it is “pornographic.”

The Atlantic has a piece on the dying lesbian bar scene in New York City. (Interestingly, a dude wrote it.) Mostly it says lesbians can exist in straight bars easier than gay dudes and we like to have potlucks and shit.

The Daily Beast published a story on why it’s not easy for black celebrities to come out. Two of the quoted sources (a gay actress and a director) wish to remain anonymous.

Billie Jean King might have been outed years ago, but she said it still wasn’t easy to be a lesbian in professional sports. In fact she said she didn’t accept her sexuality, truly, until she was in her 50s.

I cannot wait for American Horror Story: Coven. We finally have out first, brief, creeptastic look at the series, coming to FX this fall.

Jenna Lyons is the only out woman on Vanity Fair‘s International Best Dressed list this year. Well deserved! The out J Crew designer said her favorite thing to wear is “All versions of a white shirt” and that Charlotte Rampling is her style icon.

Patheos has an essay from a 72-year-old Christian grandmother who knew she was gay but didn’t come out until late in life because she was scared.
