Morning Brew – Abby Wambach and Sarah Huffman get hitched

Good morning!

Congrats to Abby Wambach and Sarah Huffman, WNY Flash teammates who made it official by getting married in Hawaii this week.

Kimberly Peirce looked dapper at the Carrie premiere in Los Angeles. The beautiful woman on her arm is her fiancee, Evren Savci.

Diana Nyad took on a new challenge yesterday, beginning her 48 hour swim in a New York City pool to raise money for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Ryan Lochte joined in the fun and Diana posted this photo of them on her Facebook. Gay men are often assumed to have problems with monogamy but it appears lesbians are “twice as likely to end a civil partnership.”

Slate writes about Fun Home, asking if America is ready for a musical about a butch lesbian. America, get on board because I am very ready.

XXL magazine has a list of 11 rappers that support LGBT rights.

NYC lesbian bar The Dalloway is moving to a new location on the Lower East Side. It will be closed for two months during the transition.

Lily Tomlin hosted the Women’s Media Awards in New York last night. Attendees include Julie Burton, Robin Morgan, Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem and Christiane Amanpour (as seen in the photo with Lily below).

During a New Yorker Festival panel last week Shonda Rimes talked about why she included a lesbian couple on Grey’s. Her answer:

“I just write things that I think are interesting—what feels true and interesting to me. I have lesbian friends.”
