Morning Brew – “My Kitchen Rules” BFFs come forward as married lesbian couple

Good morning! Hope you had a swell weekend. The best news I read: Vice President Joe Biden spoke out for LGBT equality at a GLAAD event.

Speaking of GLAAD, they’ll be honoring Jennifer Lopez with the Vanguard Award next month in L.A.

Cynthia Nixon was part of a fun sketch at the Inner Circle dinner with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife over the weekend. Chirline McCray poked fun at her former lesbian identity in “The Honeymooners-inspired skit” that had these bits of dialogue:

“Remember how after poetry class we would experiment?” McCray asked.

“Just to see what it was like to play for the other team,” Nixon said dreamily.

The New York Daily News reports, though, “The punchline had nothing to do with their sexuality. Instead, it was revealed that they were talking about an event they had once attended for former Republican Sen. Al D’Amato.”

The Daily Beast has a great piece on Kelly Cogswell’s memoir Eating Fire: My Life As a Lesbian Avenger.

Carrie Brownstein is profiled in Rolling Stone this month, where they note she’s not interested in talking about who she’s dating.

Brownstein has had relationships with women and men (including, for a time, with Tucker), but she tenses up when I ask if she’s currently dating anyone in real life. “I don’t talk about my personal life at all,” she says. “I don’t see how it’s that interesting or important in terms of what I do.”

It should be interesting to see how she writes around a personal life in her upcoming memoir.

A pair of Australian reality show competitors Carly Saunders and Middleton appeared on My Kitchen Rules as best friends, but recently reveled they are actually a couple, and married.

“All the other teams knew about us,” said real estate agent Tresne, 29, “They picked it up after the second instant restaurant, even though we are not a couple who indulge in public displays of affection.”

Food technology teacher Carly, 32, added they initially kept their relationship under wraps because they wanted to be judged for their culinary skills and not their sexual preference.

I’m glad they feel like they can come out about their relationship! (Please get your equality together, Australia. Thanks!)

While we’re overseas, a DVD release of the 2000 film Cheeky sounds a little intriguing!

When free-spirited beauty Carla (Yuliya Mayarchuk) moves to London, her search for a flat leads to a lesbian seduction by estate agent Moira (Francesca Nunzi), much to the horror of Carla’s boyfriend Matteo (Jarno Berardi) still stuck in their native Venice. And then he discovers a cache of letters from an ex-boyfriend, accompanied by a highly revealing and very public photograph of her.
Scandal!

Actress Sophie Ward writes about the difficulties of being lez, like being forced to sleep in a twin bed away from her wife. (What!?)

Nina Dobrev joked that her Vampire Diaries character might be so over the dudes messing with her on the show that she could go gay.

“After all the things these boys have done to her, she’s going to be a lesbian.”

That’s exactly how it works. Sick of men? Jump into ‘gina! At any rate, that show needs an injection of lesbian.

Remember that Aussie DJ who asked Lorde if she was in lesbians with Taylor Swift? This week he grilled Big Brother‘s Tully Smyth and Jade Albany about their hook up in the house.

Just gotta say, Cosima’s poster is my favorite. Duh.

And here’s a little featurette that gives us a glimpse of Delphine, too!

Sapphisticates, flashies, and mum-mummies: meet the celebrity lesbian tribes.” I don’t know WTF this article is talking about.
