On last night’s episode of Awkward, Jenna and Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) head to nearby college SEU to meet some college men. One of the first people they meet is a lesbian named (wait for it) Shane. Shane is Jenna’s current love interest Luke’s best friend.
While Jenna is busy figuring out her feelings for Luke, Tamara and Shane get a little closer. They bond over office supplies and organizational techniques.
They paint nails together and Shane shares how much she enjoys being with women. (“You know what they say — never send a man to do a woman’s job.”) Cue the make out.
Needless to say, Jenna is a little surprised to see Tamara in Luke’s bed with Shane the next morning.
Tamara tells Jenna she enjoyed the experience in some brilliant euphemisms but basically says it was a one time thing.
“Our beloved Tamara, an energetic high school senior, has (like all of her friends) had her ups and downs this season,” say executive producers Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler. “She got dumped by her boyfriend, and blew a college interview that she was counting on acing. So her world has been a little topsy-turvy this year, especially for a Type A girl who plans every moment of every day in her life. She’s learning that things don’t always work out the way you plan them.”
“We don’t think Tamara’s known a ton of lesbians and, as a naturally inquisitive person, is interested in knowing about things she hasn’t personally experienced. Sexual attraction is one of the great mysteries of life, and we can’t exactly plan on who we’re going to be attracted to. So we thought it would be fun to explore that with Tamara.”
