The cast of “Orange is the New Black” talks love, lesbians and Season 2

This weekend I had the extreme pleasure of interviewing some of your favorite Orange is the New Black characters during a press event in NYC. I can honestly say, the cast and folks behind the scenes were some of the warmest and lovely people you can hope to meet. Their dedication to this show and each other is clearly evident, which made speaking with each of them even more enjoyable. There’s talk about the show’s impact on queer representation as well as an overwhelming embrace of LGBT fans. The only thing missing was the pizza.

Taryn Manning (Pennsatucky) and Michael Harney (Mr. Healy) were paired in this interview and for good reason. Their characters form a bond in Season 2, as two outsiders looking in on a world they thought they knew. Taryn discusses Pennsatucky’s unlikely friendship with Big Boo, and Michael delves into Mr. Healy’s lady issues.

Laura Prepon (Alex Vause) and Jason Biggs (Larry) are as thoughtful and welcoming as they are hilarious. Laura, who is even more stunning in person, reacts to her “lesbian idol” status, while Jason gives us insight into Larry that may actually have you thinking differently about the character. Just maybe. Also, Laura’s thoughts on Piper and Alex’s intense connection. (*NSFW near the 5:55 mark, but totally worth it!)

I got some one on one time with Uzo Aduba (Suzanne/Crazy Eyes), which was a real treat because this lady is amazing. We talk about her recent Critics’ Choice Award, her character’s intense arc in Season 2, and Suzanne finding love.

In this interview with Danielle Brooks (Taystee) and Samira Wiley (Poussey), I have the honor of introducing Danielle to the world of fan fiction, while Samira talks about her characters reception by queer fans. Both actresses also speak candidly about adjusting to their newfound fame.
