A Lez/Bi Voting Guide to the 2015 People’s Choice Awards

Every time you watch an award show you don’t get to vote for, it’s a tiny bit maddening if your pick gets the shaft. That’s why the People’s Choice Awards seeks out fan votes. We want to empower you, lesbian/bisexual/queer fans of the internet, to use the power of your vote to give the shows, actors, singers and artists the wins they so rightly deserve. So here’s our voting guide with some helpful notes and feelings. (Of course, we have our own Visibility Awards in December/January, so that will be REALLY difficult.)

Favorite Movie: X-Men Days of Future Past (Ellen Page!) and Maleficent (Angelina Jolie!) battle dude-heavy flicks like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and 22 Jump Street. However, Guardians of the Galaxy might come out on top.

Favorite Movie Actress: Angelina is the only out woman in this category, but she’s got stiff competition from faves like Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone. Melissa McCarthy and Scarlett Johannson make this category even tougher.

Favorite Action Movie Actress: Switch out Shailene Woodley and Zoe Saldana for Melissa and Emma and it’s pretty much the same womenfolk from the last category. Again, Angelina is the only out one but they are all women we love.

Favorite TV Show: Nominees Once Upon a Time and Game of Thrones have queer female characters, but The Walking Dead has an actual out lesbian that appears in several episodes. #TeamTara

Favorite Network TV Drama: We’re rooting for Grey’s Anatomy in this one, which goes up against Chicago Fire (RIP Shay) and the still lesbianless Scandal.

Favorite Cable TV Comedy: Faking It takes on three ABC Family comedies and Cougartown.

Favorite Cable TV Drama: We’re going to go with the uber-gay Pretty Little Liars over Rizzoli & Isles, but know some of you might disagree based on your love of Sapphic subtext. (Just vote for Angie Harmon as Favorite Cable TV Actress and call it good.)

Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy show: OUAT goes up against Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Supernatural, who is frequently visited by their out lesbian character played by Felicia Day.

Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show: American Horror Story hasn’t been as gay in the last two seasons, but it’s still a top contender against GOT and TWD.

Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress: Jennifer Morrison is nominated. That’s probably all I have to tell you.

Favorite Daytime TV Host: Ellen DeGeneres. Duh.

Favorite Dramedy: Orange is the New Black, hands down. Shameless is a close second.

Favorite TV Character We Miss Most: LESLIE SHAY, CHICAGO FIRE.

Favorite New TV Comedy: Marry Me and Jane the Virgin are the only options with queer lady characters.

Favorite New TV Drama: We’re going with Gotham, although Red Band Society and Gracepoint also have recurring gay characters. (No one can beat Renee Montoya.)

Favorite Female Artist: Out bisexual songstress Sia gets our vote, as she does in Favorite Pop Artist.

You can vote for your faves right now at PeoplesChoice.com and watch who wins when they air on January 7 on CBS.
