“Transparent,” “OITNB” and “Pride” receive Golden Globe nominations

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe nominations were announced today, and included some familiar names as well as some lovely surprises. The Globes traditionally kick off Hollywood awards season, and can be a good indicator of subsequent Academy Award and Emmy nominations.

Overall, queer women were not represented in the film category, with the exception of a Best Picture nod for Pride, which, hey, not too shabby. It’s going to be a big year for musicals however, with both Into the Woods and Annie (neither of which have actually been released in the US yet) receiving multiple nominations. So musical theatre fans rejoice! If only Sondheim had made one of those characters a lesbian! I wish…

Television is where LGBT characters and storylines shined. The Good Wife picked up a Best Drama Nomination, and no one brings the drama like Kalinda.

The Best Comedy race will be the one to watch this year with nominations for Girls, Orange is the New Black, Silicon Valley and new comers Transparent and Jane the Virgin. Actress Gina Rodriguez walked away with a first time Best Actress nomination for her title role in Jane the Virgin, as did Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba (Best Supporting), for their work on Orange is the New Black. Fan favorite Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black was notably absent from the list.

The dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be hosting the awards on January 11th, on NBC and we will be sure to live tweet with our beloved hashtag #showusyourGlobes. Please join us.
