Morning Brew – Ellen DeGeneres wants everyone to see “Freeheld”

Good morning!

Just a note that there was nothing so lez on Rosewood or Empire last night (boo!) so no recaps of those shows this week.

Ellen DeGeneres had Julianne Moore on her show yesterday and shares how badly she wants everyone to see Freeheld. That’s basically an order from our President, folks.

If you’re in Buffalo, NY, check out The Last Reading of Charlotte Cushman as performed by The Brazen-Faced Varlets, “Buffalo’s valiant and persevering feminist theater group.” Bad ass.

A poll in Australia finds that lesbian couples are utilizing sperm banks more than single women or heterosexual couples.

This year’s Oscars could be Cate Blanchett vs. Cate Blanchett.

A woman has been fined for telling a lesbian to abort her children (among other things) in a family restaurant.

UK readers are already familiar with her I’m sure, but lesbian writer Julie Bindel was banned from a conversation on feminism at the University of Manchester because of her “extreme views.”

The Mary Sue chatted with Addicted to Fresno writer Karey Dornetto, director Jamie Babbit and star Natasha Lyonne.

Spoiler alert: Margaret Cho is “not an ideal lesbian” because she’s bisexual.

Lesbians just keep catfishing people. This time, it was a Sister Wife.

Kids raised by LGBT people are pretty damn awesome. So it sucks that this is happening for Rosie O’Donnell.

Rachel Maddow is going to moderate a Democratic candidate forum on November 6.

Katie Stevens is excited about Spirit Day.

Among Miranda July’s favorite things: Old letters to BFF Carrie Brownstein where she says she is “flirting with her.”

“I used to type my letters using carbon copies, so I have my side too. I reread one of my first letters to my friend (of 20 years) Carrie Brownstein, and I’m flirting with her. I’m doing that thing where you try to make yourself sound cool and modest and straight and gay and reckless and brilliant. It was so embarrassing that I made sort of a dying sound out loud. But it’s one of the nice things about being in your 40s – your friendships begin to hold your history in a way that’s kind of funny and lighthearted. The commitment has been proven, but there isn’t the weight of a marriage.”

Lea DeLaria went on The Wendy Williams Show yesterday, where she talked about her lovely fiancee and, of course, Orange.

Backstage, she played Fave Five. She loves Sense8.
