Drink this “Carol”-inspired cocktail tonight during the Golden Globes

Portland-based bartender Natasha Hill created a special cocktail just for tonight’s Golden Globes that you can make at home. We asked Natasha, who is competing as part of Speed Rack Seattle on January 31, to give us something inspired by Carol, which is up for several awards tonight, and here’s what she came up with. Try it at home!

Speed Rack is a national cocktail competition that “puts the spotlight on female mixologists thriving behind bars around the country; and while they are at it, raise money for breast cancer research, education, and prevention.” So drink up for a great cause.

The Carol Cocktail

Ingredients:

1.5 oz (Grain Free such as Monopolowa) Vodka

.75oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

1 oz Chamomile Syrup*

6-8 Mint leaves

Egg White

Lemon twist

*Chamomile Syrup

4 Chamomile tea bags

1 Cup water

1 Cup sugar

Directions:

1. For the Chamomile Syrup: Combine water and sugar in small saucepan over high heat. Stir to dissolve sugar and bring to a boil. Immediately remove from heat and add the chamomile tea bags. Steep for 30 minutes then remove the tea. Cool to room temperature and refrigerate.

2. For each cocktail:

Smack the mint in your hands then add all ingredients to mixing tin (a jar with a lid will work).

Froth or whip with dairy frother or dry shake to emulsify.

Add ice to tin and shake vigorously.

Strain into a cocktail glass.

Express lemon peel and discard.

Garnish with chamomile leaves (optional)

For a lighter drink add .75 oz sparkling water to mixing tin just before straining.
