Morning Brew – Kesha gives tearful speech at HRC Nashville Equality Dinner

Good morning!

Yesterday in Los Angeles, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics association honored some of our Dorian Award winners of the year including Carol writer Phyllis Nagy, who accepted the film’s six awards.

Also over the weekend, out filmmaker Nisha Ganatra was honored with the Outfest Fusion Achievement Award. She gave an incredible speech about creating a space for herself in Hollywood, and encouraging others to doing the same by telling your stories to anyone who will listen, and doing it over and over again.

Nisha’s upcoming DirecTV series, You Me Her, follows a couple that decides to open itself to a third. It premieres later this month.

The Supreme Court has reversed a decision made in Alabama state that a woman’s adoption of her daughter in Georgia would not hold up in Alabama, where her daughter now lives with her other mother (the bio mom). In other words, a win for same-sex adoption rights.

Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard talked about the response she received to coming out as queer on Twitter with Wonderland.

“I’m okay with it now, but I still realise that I was allowing people to comment on something that’s very personal. The first day I tweeted about it, it was definitely scary to see people commenting about things that literally have nothing to do with them.”
