Morning Brew – Rachel Maddow performs beat poetry about the GOP

Good morning!

I never knew how badly I needed to see Rachel Maddow perform beat poetry, until now.

Crazy people call into C-Span and think telling a woman she must be a lesbian is an insult. I love how she smile in response.

Irish Central shows some love for Ireland’s out lesbian government minister Katherine Zappone.

Refinery29 chatted with Ruby Rose about LGBT visibility, and she talked about seeing few lesbians on TV growing up down under.

“In my case I was obsessed with this character on this soap opera. I was like in love with her, I was 9 years old, and I had never seen a lesbian on TV, [so] finally I was like, ‘Oh my god. They exist, there’s someone else out there.’ Then in an episode she died from like a tidal wave that only wiped out the one lesbian. I was too young then to understand that the odds of that were really slim. I was just like, ‘Oh my god! Tidal waves are the biggest fear of my life now!’ You know, that’s also still happening but to a lesser degree. Even if you go back five years, 10 years, every time the staple lesbian character had to either die or get killed or something horrible would happen to them or they’d end up in prison. But maybe they all end up in Litchfield!”

Watch out for the tidal waves, everyone!

Aniya Wolf was thrown out of her prom in Pennsylvania for wearing a suit.

On a tragic note, this kind of bigotry is causing other young people to take their own lives. Fifteen-year-old Chloe Orr left a note saying “she was tormented over her sexuality” and the fact her family and friends were not accepting of her being a lesbian. She was found dead in her garden shed. Rest in peace, Chloe.

Of course this GOPUSA site does not think Elsa should be gay in the Frozen sequel. My favorite part:

And now they’ve targeted Disney, or at least, one extremely savvy teen lesbian has. And as these things always play out, she will be at the vanguard of other attempts, mostly by sympathetic adults, to push for Elsa to open the Stonewall Ice Cream cafe in Arendelle, marry a lesbian barista and live happily ever after.

That’s actually a great idea!

At The Times of India: I don’t believe in love, courtesy my lesbian relationship. Despite this terrible title, I think the sad story actually proves that same-sex relationships carry the exact kind of weight that heterosexual ones do. Sadly, that includes heartbreak.
