Morning Brew – Constance Wu cast as lesbian military psychologist in “Dimension 404”

Good morning!

Hulu’s new series Dimension 404 has cast Constance Wu (aka BAE aka Jessica on Fresh off the Boat) as a lesbian military psychologist named Jane. She joins a cast that also includes Sarah Hyland, Lea Michele, Patton Oswalt, Joel McHale and Megan Mullaly, among others. Her role in the six-episode sci-fi/fantasy anthology is described as such:

“a military psychologist on active duty, who wants nothing more than to spend Christmas leave with her wife and daughter. However, the U.S. government cancels her plans and re-assigns her to a much more vital task: help the NSA’s unusual but most valued agent overcome his performance issues in order to stop a deadly terrorist attack. “

ICYMI, Robin Roberts talked with Miss Missouri Erin O’Flaherty about being openly gay and her LGBTQ platform.

Ingrid Nilsen celebrates her coming out anniversary.

Ellen DeGeneres spoke about her family and relationship with HELLO! magazine. A quote:

“Now I have Portia in my life, I’ve been forced to grow a great deal, because I’ve learnt that you can’t really get anything from anyone unless you have something to give to them. So I come to this relationship as a whole person, which I wasn’t ever before. She and I both support each other and we both believe in each other and it’s great.”

Sydney Mardi Gras has a new CEO: Terese Casu.

Lindsay Hicks stars in “Gay Bar: 1st Time Vs. 101st Time.”

CBC arts reporter Kevin Sweet got real about some issues in the LGBTQ community.

“Pride also has a lot of land mines. I think there are many issues facing our community. I think if you went in to the lesbian community and asked them if they felt included by the gay community, you’d get an interesting answer. If you approached … minorities like Asians, I think you would get some people expressing feelings of segregation.”

The New York Times writes about the pastors who praised the Orlando tragedy.

The Malaysian National Fatwa Council thinks tomboys and lesbians are the same thing.

Tegan and Sara are queerer than ever.

Shay Mitchell chatted with Time and talked Emison in Season 7.

“I think that their relationship is unlike any of the other relationships that the other girls have. It was something very special-it was Emily’s first love. It’s when she really was able to figure herself out. I think whatever Ali goes through, I truly believe that Emily will always be by her side. That’s the friend you’d want to have. I think even in my own [personal] friendships, you may not have talked in a long time, but you pick up exactly where you left off. If you made each other mad, you were sisters and still bonded in some way. I think that’s kind of the relationship that Emily and Ali have.”

Lea DeLaria is in Esquire, detailing her volunteer efforts in Provincetown during the AIDS crisis.

The Washington Post writes about legendary lesbian painter Romaine Brooks, whose work is currently on view at Smithsonian American Art.

Alicia Champion‘s “Bi” is… thought-provoking.
