Sue Bird Comes Out As A Lesbian

Ladies, please welcome Bird to the team. On Thursday, the WNBA star made the official announcement that she’s a lesbian, despite having known about her sexuality since college. In a profile piece for espnW (side note: is it just too much for ESPN to be inclusive of women in their coverage?) Bird stated that she’s “gay.” When the interviewer asked Sue why she decided to come out now, the athlete responded:

“It’s happening when it’s happening because that’s what feels right. So even though I understand there are people who think I should have done it sooner, it wasn’t right for me at the time. I have to be true to that. It’s my journey.”

Speak your truth, Sue.

Oh, and I have one more additional tidbit to report about this story… Bird made it known that lesbian soccer star Megan Rapinoe is her girlfriend. Hey, hey, HEY!

“… Megan’s my girlfriend. … These aren’t secrets to people who know me. I don’t feel like I’ve not lived my life. I think people have this assumption that if you’re not talking about it, you must be hiding it, like it’s this secret. That was never the case for me.”

Yeah, I think a lot of us needed this happy news in light of Kacy and Cori’s breakup. Although I can’t confirm how long these two have officially been together, some outlets are reporting it has been a few months. It makes sense when you consider Rapinoe ended her engagement to Sera Cahoone in January 2017.

Anyways, congrats to Rapinoe and Bird.

Evan Rachel Wood Slams Ben Affleck For His Comments On “Gay Kissing”

Before I break this feud down, can we first all agree that Affleck is a questionable person? I think it’s important we establish this fact right out of the gate.

OK, so this past Saturday, director Kevin Smith attended the LGBT Film Festival in Los Angeles to discuss Chasing Amy. According to Smith, Affleck made some interesting comments about kissing another male actor during a 1997 scene for the show.

Per Smith’s account, Affleck said: “‘A man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face.'” If that wasn’t cringey enough, Affleck allegedly told Smith after filming the scene:  “Now I’m a serious actor.’”
Once Affleck’s comments made its way to Wood, she posted a series of condemning tweets. The bisexual actress has since deleted the messages due to “sickening” messages from trolls, but here’s a screenshot of it for your viewing pleasure:

In response to all the drama, Smith issued an apology on Facebook:

It was my fault. I told a cute story that was printed elsewhere without any of the context. Of course, Affleck doesn’t feel that way today. It wasn’t something he went out to the world and talked about. I don’t want to see Evan Rachel Wood get upset. I don’t want to see her thinking bad shit about Ben Affleck. I feel fucking horrible. She’s mad at something I said and I didn’t even say that.”

Although this was the last feud I expected in 2017, here we are. Let’s hope Affleck has in fact matured… 20 years is more than enough time to get it together.
