Ilene Chaiken announces second season of “The Real L Word”

Series creator Ilene Chaiken announced today that Showtime has green lit a second season of The Real L Word.

Chaiken made the announcement at the 2010 Out & Equal Workplace Summit conference in Los Angeles, where she was speaking at the Women’s Leadership Luncheon. Check back soon for a post on what she had to say about her life and career as “a gay woman and writer.”

A press release from Showtime was also issued today, stating:

Season two will consist of nine episodes and follow a group of intriguing women — some returning and some new — as they share their personal stories at work and play, in the Los Angeles lesbian scene — all uncut and uncensored. Casting for the new members is set to begin this week and production will begin later this year.

In that press release, Chaiken says, “I’m thrilled and truly excited by the support from SHOWTIME and their desire to really bust it out in the second season. We’re looking to tell deeper stories about some of the cast members whom we got to know in season one, and to meet some new women whose lives reflect additional facets of lesbian life and experience.”

Chaiken told me exclusively that they are looking for all kinds of diversity in their casting, and that filming will begin very soon. No word yet on when they plan to go on air, or which cast members will return or sit this one out. Those interested in being part of the show can email [email protected] with your name, phone number, city and state you live in as well as a recent photo.

The first season of the reality series premiered in June 2010, and focused on a group of lesbians in Los Angeles.

We’ll keep you posted on this news as more information becomes available.
