A Gay Girl’s Guide to Fall TV: October

By now, you’ve probably decided which September shows are sticking around on your fall TV schedule. It’s time to factor in a few others that debut this month, and I’m betting there is at least one that will find its way onto your DVR.

Definitely Watch…

Claire Danes carries the show as a CIA agent who doesn’t trust a recently returned prisoner of war. Her performance alone makes it worth watching, but the show is also an engaging suspenseful thriller.

Though it’s a lot different from the creator’s other show, Glee, American Horror Story is a creepy, well-written offering, just in time for Halloween.

Rosie O’Donnell promises great guests, fun discussions and Oprah’s full support/Harpo staff and studio. It’s made to win.

Airing right after The Rosie Show, Oprah will use her 25 years of The Oprah Show episodes to educate and entertain viewers and guests, much like she did on her original show – and that one did alright.

Could Be Worth It…

Laura Dern plays a woman trying to brighten her life (and others’) after having a nervous breakdown. The premise makes it sound somewhat similar to The Big C (woman has life-altering event and changes outlook on said life), but Laura could make it truly fun to watch, much like that other Laura (Linney).

Big names like Ginnifer Goodwin and Jennifer Morrison playing out fairy tales is fun to watch, but the pilot dragged a bit. There is a lot to work with here, so here’s hoping it finds its footing.

I have one suggestion on how to make this show watchable: Put some women in it – and I don’t mean the victims of the Brothers Grimm-inspired crimes. Eerie with a perfect Portland backdrop, it’s good, but could use a dose of estrogen.

You Should Skip…

This show stars Tim Allen as someone a lot like himself. Haven’t we seen this before?

Three dude friends try to prove how manly they are. Unsubscribe.
