“The Real L Word” goes bi-coastal for its third season

Get you pumps and pants ready. The Real L Word is coming back to Showtime for a third season. And this time, it won’t be content with just invading one coast. No, this time, no lesbian in Los Angeles or New York will be safe. Yep, the real world that Ilene Chaiken built is going bi-coastal.

The Showtime press release announcing the reality show’s renewal says the series will go into production in 2012 for nine new episodes that will introduce new women from the New York social scene. The Chaiken said of the new L.A./N.Y. season:

We’re excited and gratified to be picking up the stories of our most beloved Season 2 cast members at some truly major and life-altering junctures, and we think it’s time to throw down and invite the women of New York to join in and demonstrate the claims they’ve lobbed at us these past few years…that New York’s women have something more to say about lesbian life, something that isn’t being said by our Los Angeles ladies. Bring it on, Brooklyn!

Poor, poor Brooklyn. No word on who exactly from Season 2 will be back, though it’s a safe bet Whitney Mixter will return seeing as her picture was featured in the press release. Showtime will start casting for the new season soon. So if you’re brave or crazy or that proud of your level of sexual activity, stay tuned for updates on where to apply.

My only question is how will they post the new cast? The first season it was with sunshine crotches. The second it was in an oil slick. I’ve got my fingers crossed for some subway garbage or pizza sauce for season three. For authenticity, people — because this show is nothing if not authentic.

So, interested? Tuning in? Tuning out? Good luck, New York.
