Great LezBritain: Lu Corfield plays doctor

If you don’t watch it at the moment, you might be interested in taking a look at daytime soap Doctors, which seems to have an interesting storyline brewing with fairly new character Freya, played by out bisexual actress Lu Corfield.

Freya’s first episode on Doctors aired in February and was titled The Asian and The Lesbian. The storyline followed Freya and Kevin (Simon Rivers) as they battled it out to be given a job in the show’s fictional doctor’s surgery. Since then it has been assumed (in a friendly fashion) by the other characters that Freya is a lesbian and she has never challenged these assumptions.

But in today’s episode, her co-workers were left perplexed when Freya’s date Bobbie turned out to be a man. We’re told that this is not the end of the matter, and much like in real-life, Freya’s sexuality is not likely to be “straight-forward.” We’re hoping this means that Doctors may be about to explore a bisexual character for the first time, which would actually be pretty ground breaking for a daytime soap. Of course, it is a daytime soap, which means Freya is potentially also hiding a secret murderous past and sleeping with her brother. But let’s hope not.

We’ll have an interview with Lu Corfield in the new year, but in the meantime let us know what you think of Freya and where this storyline is going.
