Dara & Karman’s Hit List: “Biopics” (Episode 17)

We’re back! We had to take some time off to redesign and to prep for our show making the leap to late night television on Logo. (As with Brunch with Bridget, the online version of our show will be extended.)

What do you think of our fancy new set?

This week, Dara and I discuss one of our favorite film genres, the biopic. As the saying goes, there ain’t nothing like the real thing, baby. That’s why we love well-made films that make real-life people seem even more awesome than you ever knew they were.

Whether its Sean Penn‘s award-winning performance in Milk, or Lily Taylor as Valerie Solanas in I Shot Andy Warhol, biopics offer some of our best actors the challenge of morphing into people, not “characters.” And when they’re good, as in Coal Miner’s Daughter (Sissy Spacek), Gia (Angelina Jolie), or Boys Don’t Cry (Hillary Swank), they’re great.

We also talk about who would play us in the biopics of our lives. Who would play you?
