Hogwarts Legacy had one of the biggest launches of all time. Despite an attempted boycott, the Harry Potter prequel is one of the fastest selling games of all time, shifting over 12 million copies and netting $850,000 in sales in just two weeks. The player goes to classes at Hogwarts, learning new spells anddoing quests for teachers. And gamers around the world are falling hard for the Herbology witch: Professor Mirabel Garlick.
Her long red braids and elfin face have taken the internet by storm. TikTok is flooded with Professor Garlick fan edits. On YouTube and Twitch, countless streamers thirsting over her. And on Facebook every Hogwarts Legacy group is awash with memes about simping for Professor Garlick. The game may be rated suitable for young teens, but the comments are definitely not!
It doesn’t matter if you’re in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. Players’ love for Professor Garlick transcends the bounds of Hogwarts houses. And simping is universal. But Professor Garlick’s taste in partners is… very specific.
The Herbology teacher is fruity! Here’s what the official Hogwarts Legacy guide has to say:
“London-born Professor Garlick grew up in a household full of Muggles and didn’t really feel at home until she was a student at Hogwarts. In fact, she will tell you that it was at the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry she finally ‘blossomed’ herself – and discovered her extraordinary affinity for magical plants.
“Her sunny demeanour and flowery language charm colleagues and students alike, prompting some students to worry she will one day leave them for another greenhouse. But Mirabel Garlick would never leave her students. So, even if the right witch were to come along, she’d simply have to love Hogwarts as much as Mirabel does.”
The right witch. Not wizard, not person – witch. Professor Garlick likes the ladies. She’s a lesbian! And it’s part of the official canon. Bad luck, boys. Plant Mommy is playing for our team. One thing’s for sure: whoever ends up with Mirabel is one lucky witch.
In game there’s no sign of a future Mrs Garlick. But there are other lesbians in the highlands. Nora Treadwell, the archaeologist and explorer who introduces your character to the Merlin Trials, mentions her wife. We get to meet Priya Treadwell too, a “brilliant” potion-maker who runs a shop. Russian translators changed all references of “wives” to “friends”, but they’re officially a couple.
It’s good to know Professor Garlick has lesbian community nearby. And she’s not the only lesbian in the greenhouse either. In the Harry Potter films Professor Sprout was played by a lesbian icon: Miriam Margolyes. Long may the tradition of lesbian herbologists continue!
