Straight Men Are Pretending to be Gay to Exploit Intoxicated Sapphic Women

An Australian DJ, who goes by the stage name Beks, has issued a warning that straight men are pretending to be gay to exploit intoxicated sapphic women at gay events.
In a series of TikTok videos, Beks describes being ambushed by a group of men who had been “posing as somebody that’s gay” after she had been dancing alone at a festival.
“I was dancing on my own, and these four guys came up to me as a pack. And one of them said to me, ‘Oh, do you want to dance?’ I said I only dance with gay guys.”
“Now, the reason why I had to say this is because I wasn’t getting a gay vibe from him. He said, ‘I’m not gay, but my best friend is’,” Beks said in a TikTok clip.
Beks caught the group, including the supposedly “gay” friend, leering at a woman who had been “sexually expressing herself in a very liberated way.”
Beks began recording the men when they “grabbed” a woman and “pulled her into [their] circle.” The men soon noticed her recording them, and one shielded his face from being seen by the camera. It was then that the DJ went to find a security guard, to make sure the men “weren’t going to prey on any [more] intoxicated women.”
Beks, who is same-sex attracted herself, says the men were “pretending to be gay in order to access these spaces, they were being physical with women and they were hunting in a pack, looking for situations of women who were on their own.”
Same-sex attracted people lamented in the comments over how this is not a new trend, calling for there to be stricter measures on who should feel welcome at gay events. Beyond security specifically watching out for these predators, the community needs to know it’s happening so fellow same-sex attracted people, especially men of the perpetrators’ size, can intervene.
‘Lesbian’ usually battles ‘Teen’ for the most-searched porn category. It’s no secret we’re fetishized by straight men. It’s no coincidence that straight men are attending gay events to prey on women, where many of whom are lesbian or are in relationships with women. While it’s a misogyny issue, it’s also a lesbophobic one. Why not go to events where women might be to be into you, if you want to hook up?
DJ Beks says she has trouble sleeping after the event. She is worried “women may have been prey to these guys at the end of the night.”
“I have no tolerance for these grubs, these cockroaches that exploit humans, no matter who you are,” she said.
“I am just so fucking sick and tired of people being exploited in these situations,” she added, “I just happened to be a queer woman who was in that space, and I think that it is absolutely disgraceful that people would pretend to be gay in order to exploit women.”
