Batwoman S2E11 Recap: Arrive Alive

Buckle up Batwoman lesbians, because this episode is a doozy!

We open on Angelique in a lab, being held hostage by the Black Mask. They are torturing her, trying to get her to agree to cook Snake Bite for them (since she used to be Ocean’s right hand.)

Meanwhile, Ryan calls Sophie for an update on Ang. While there’s nothing to report on the Crows’ end, Ryan decides to take matters into her own hands. Luke preps her on how to infiltrate the False Face Society.

Alice, however, is back in Dr. Rhyme’s (Engima’s) office. A client comes in and Alice pretends to be Enigma, and right as Enigma walks in for the appointment, Alice kills the guy. Alice then sits down with Enigma, and asks her to remove her memories of Kate completely.

The FFS is driving to their next drop in their ever so sporty cars. Ryan (as Batwoman) busts one of the cars and gets the driver out. The driver turns out to be Sophie undercover, and Ryan just blew her mission. Whoops.

Back at Engima’s, Alice threatens her until she agrees to help. Enigma says that Alice has to work through her trauma; until she gets rid of her hallucination of Kate, Enigma can’t help her remove Kate completely. Alice seems okay with this plan, for now.

Sophie comes into the office and Kane throws her off the case. Why? Because she made things personal when she went after FFS herself; she felt guilty for getting Ang involved in the whole mess. Sophie then goes to the bar to give Ryan the news, and Ryan volunteers to go undercover just as Sophie had. (It is important to remember that Sophie does not know Ryan is Batwoman, and Ryan would be going as herself. Omg!)

Enigma hypnotizes Alice, which sends us into a flashback. Alice is in the car with Kate who is taking polaroids of the two of them. Alice looks at the photo, and it’s them as teenagers. Kate tells Alice to take a deep look at herself, Alice takes a photo of Kate (who’s 13, by the way) and Kate disappears. Then the driver talks and it turns out to be Ocean. Alice wakes up in shock, and accuses Enigma of toying with her. But more on that later…

Mary let Ryan and Sophie borrow her car for Ryan to go undercover, and Sophie preps her on how to drive it. Then Sophie tells Ryan they have to meet with someone who can get her an FFS interview and fake ID. That someone is none other than Luke, of course. However, Ryan and Luke have to pretend that they have never met and that Luke only knows that Ryan is Mary’s roommate. Luke sets up Ryan’s info and as Sophie leaves, he gives Ryan a tracker to install in the car as well as tech so he can drive in place of Ryan when he needs to. Luke also tells Ryan he’s worried about lying to Sophie, and that she’s going to find out Ryan’s Batwoman…

Anyway, Alice is now panicking over Ocean being in her hallucination. Enigma points out that Alice does in fact have emotions, which Alice resents.

Ryan shows up for her FFS interview, and they hire her for the job. As Ryan is getting ready to leave, Sophie calls and tells her there’s a drone tracking her, and there’s no way she can set up the tracker without being noticed. Ryan decides to go ahead with the plan anyway, because Luke has the power to take over the car (which Sophie doesn’t know.) As they begin the drive, Ryan gives look the wheel and starts to put the tracker together; the cops hop on their tail but Luke manages to loose them, only after they shot at Mary’s car. Ryan completes the job, though, and heads to her apartment.

When Ryan arrives, Luke shows up too but Sophie is nowhere to be found. They realize quickly that Sophie went to take on the FFS herself.

Enigma hypnotizes Alice again and she flashes back to kissing Ocean. However, the flashback is quickly broken when the REAL OCEAN storms into the office and attacks Alice. Ocean tells Alice that the knife she stabbed him with was dipped in the Desert Rose, so he’s still alive. They fight, and Enigma decides to give their memories back to them, making her escape. (!!!)

Ryan (now as Batwoman) shows up to save the day only after Sophie got herself caught by the Black Mask. Black Mask fights both of them, and then pulls Ang being held at gunpoint on screen. He says that if they don’t let him go, Ang will be shot.

Black Mask now goes to Ang, and threatens to inject her with the Snake Bite she just cooked. Ang gets out of it by saying she will help him find Ocean again.

Speaking of, Ocean and Alice are now walking down an alley. He updates her on why he’s in Gotham – to retrieve the last Desert Rose from Batwoman and take it back to Safiyah. He asks Alice if she regrets killing him, and she doesn’t answer him directly. However, she does slam him into a dumpster and starts making out with him, so there’s that.

Meanwhile, Sophie has gone to check out Mary’s car and make sure it’s okay. In doing so, she finds the Bat-device that Luke was using to drive the car on Ryan’s behalf.

At the Crows HQ, the new guy assigned to the FFS case oversees footage of Sophie and Batwoman fighting with the Black Mask. He goes to the scene, and swabs some of Batwoman’s blood off the floor.

Sophie takes the device she found into the office, and listens to some of the audio. Thus discovering, for the first time, that Ryan is Batwoman.

Roll credits.
