Lesbian Becomes City’s First Gay and Female Mayor

Austin Quinn-Davidson made history this month by being appointed Anchorage, Alaska’s new acting mayor. Her appointment comes after the city assembly voted for her to take the role. This makes her the first woman and the first openly gay mayor of the city. But how did she get here? The previous mayor, a straight male, resigned after a sex scandal. Quinn-Davidson has served on the city assembly since 2018 and says, “at first, I was very resistant because it is a big task.” She’s right. The city’s COVID cases have been rising with winter on the way. May she use the power of lesbianism to serve the people of Anchorage well.

Man Drove 500 Miles to Kill His Lesbian Daughter

In more horrific news elsewhere, a father in France threatened to kill his lesbian daughter after she came out to him. The daughter, 19, is studying in Narbonne in the south of France. She started dating another woman and came out to her father, 52, who lived in the northeastern city of Strasbourg. He then drove 500 miles without stopping to her university where he threatened her. She was able to run to safety while a university employee blocked the entrance. The man was taken into custody. His daughter, her mother, and his daughter’s girlfriend have all filed criminal charges against him. Homophobia is alive and well, ladies, so stay vigilant.

A post shared by Camille Balanche (@cam.bal) on Oct 11, 2020 at 9:21am PDT

Camille Balanche became the first out lesbian to win the UCI Downhill Mountain Biking World Championship. Lesbians just can’t help but dominate in sports. Balanche, a former hockey player and fencer, was also the first Swiss woman to win in the competition’s 30-year history. It is so fitting that the UCI World Champion jersey is a rainbow jersey and now a lesbian is wearing it. Balanche’s partner, fellow Swiss team member Emilie Siegenthaler was there to celebrate with her, too. Despite the broadcast company not highlighting their relationship in the same way they do heterosexual relationships, the couple shared an embrace to celebrate.

Netflix Orders Lesbian Teen Vampire Series from Emma Roberts

We’re getting lesbian vampires! You no longer have to constantly rewatch Carmilla or that one scene in Dracula where Katie McGrath makes out with a woman. The series, First Kill, will center around two lesbians characters and is based on a short story of the same name written by Victoria “V.E.” Schwab. Schwab will also serve as the writer, creator, and executive producer for the eight-episode series. Emma Roberts will also serve as an executive producer. The official descriptions read, “When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for…”

New Fried Green Tomatoes Series Will Star Reba McEntire

The new series will be based on the movie and is in the works at NBC. The show will focus on Idgie Threadgoode, played my McEntire, in the present day. McEntire is also an executive producer for the show. Fannie Flagg, the author of the novel that inspired the movie will also serve as an executive producer. According to Variety, the series will see the character “wrestle with a changed town, estranged daughter, faltering cafe and life-changing secret.” While the movie relied heavily on subtext, the novel wasn’t shy about portraying a romance between Idge and Ruth Jamison. New Texas Rule Allows Social Workers to Turn Away Gay People

The homophobia never ends. Texas’ state regulatory board for social workers has voted unanimously to rescind protections for LGBT people seeking services. Social workers will no longer be prohibited from turning away clients on the basis of disability or sexual orientation. Texas governor Greg Abbott said the change was necessary to conform with existing state laws. But, many social workers in the state aren’t happy about the change. The governor’s office recommended the change because it says the code’s nondiscrimination protections went beyond the state’s law that governs how and when the state may discipline social workers. Many social workers in the state are disheartened and angry because apparently, they were not consulted about the change.

The memoir, High School, will be a coming-of-age comedy because let’s be honest, we were all absolute clowns at that age. The series aims to take fans on a journey of the singers’ first loves, first songs, growing up in the ‘90s as lesbians. But wait! There’s more! Clea DuVall will executive produce. The series is currently in development, with no release date announced. It will be released on IMDbTV, Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Los Angeles would finally get its own NWSL team. While we didn’t get an official name, we did get a star-studded investors list. And now, we can officially welcome Angel City FC to the most cursed sports league in the US! On top of that, more investors have been named. Lesbian tennis legend Billie Jean King and her partner Ilana Kloss have hopped on board. WNBA player Candace Parker, skier Lindsey Vonn, Becky G, and Sophia Bush are also amongst the new names added to the investor list.

Pope Francis Calls For Civil Union Laws For Same-Sex Couples

That headline is a lot to process, so take your time. But you read that correctly. The actual Pope has called for the creation of civil union laws for same-sex couples. This is a huge break from the Catholic church’s teachings. In a new documentary, the Pope says, “homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be miserable because of it.” Since he became Pope in 2013, Francis has expressed interest in reaching out to the church’s LGB followers. But they have usually been in the form of comments suggesting general understanding, never outright support of legal protections. He did not say anything about same-sex marriages. Needless to say, there are many reactions to this news. Happiness. Frustration. And most definitely confusion.

Deaf U Gives Us Deaf Lesbian Representation

Don’t let the picture fool you. There are in fact lesbians on this show! The Netflix original series features eight episodes and follows the lives of a tight-knit group of deaf and hard of hearing students at Gallaudet University. Think of it as something like The Real World for deaf and heard of hearing people. The show follows several couples, and one of them happens to be lesbian.

  1. First Kill sounds like a fanfic I read a while ago 🤣 I can’t wait to watch it. As much as I love Carmilla, there’s a limit to how many times I can rewatch the series and movie. We need more supernatural lesbian stories.
