It’s Back! The L Word: Generation Q Season 3 Episode 1 Recap

Ladies! We’re back! The long anticipated season three is here. Why so anticipated? Season two left us on a cliffhanger with Bette and Tina. This is the reason we all absolutely, collectively, madly needed a season three. What happens to our matriarch couple, Bette and Tina? Yeah, a bunch of other stuff with loose ends too but this is fifty percent of why we all watch and you know it.

The suspense doesn’t drag any further than the opening scene. Yes, Bette is in love with Tina! Oh, and Tina is in love with Bette, with a renunciation, “I’ve loved you my whole life but I just wish you were fucking better at it.”

Fast forward, we are now checking in on everyone one year later. Bette and Tina are not back together, presumably, because Tina didn’t want to ride the bad-at-love ride again. Angie is moving into college. The friends are gossiping about Bette and Tina seeing each other again because their friendship has been strained since the love declaration.  Bette is trying to be a chill new version of Bette who’s less high strung, and she looks like she’s doing well in her efforts. Are we going to see some real growth mindset action in Bette for the first time ever in her story arch? Imagine that!

Shane’s looking stressed to the max these days

So, um, Shane and Tess are still together. I don’t know if I straight up didn’t see that one coming, or if I just didn’t want to see that one coming. Shane looks all the worse for the wear because of it though. Tess’s Mom with dementia and MS now lives with them in Shane’s house (who they have taken over, by the looks of things) and Shane looks absolutely bedraggled under the weight of it all.

Yes, please to more of these scenes

Drool worthy moment here: Gigi and Dani are having a sexy make out session in bed. Dani wants Gigi to move in. Oh, but she forgot that this also includes kids (whoops, forgot about them!)

Are these two going to make it?

Finley is arriving home from successfully completing a year stint in rehab. You did it baby! I’m always on Team Finley. I want to see her succeed. Out the gate, homegirl is trying so hard to keep doing the right thing and shows sincere remorse and a desire to make amends.

Is Micah going to propose to Maribel? Sophie finds a ring. He wants to.

Shane offers Finley her job back at the bar after she acknowledges her past behavior and mistakes. Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible idea? No? Good because it’s a terrible idea.

I guess Finn has been venmoing Alice odd little amounts of money frequently. She has a desire to pay Alice back for rehab, out of gratitude, although Alice keeps assuring Finn that she doesn’t need to do that. This is actually wholesome and so cute.

Dani doesn’t give a fuck how much healing Finn has attempted

The positive run Finley has had so far with her list of amends comes to a screeching halt when she attempts her next apology: to the woman who’s wedding she helped implode. Dani is not at all amused and unleashes her pent up anger on Finn. This is the one in the friend circle who doesn’t give a shit if she changed or not, they have beef that Finn can’t fix.

Kehlani making eyes at Shane

Enter into season three of The L Word: Generation Q: Kehlani! Ughhhhhhhhhh. What a treat. Oh, and she has her eyes set on Shane. Kehlani asks Shane for a private hair styling session. OKAY. Yes.

Bette is auctioning a piece of art from her own collection at a benefit held at Dana’s. Tina recognizes the piece as once that had been hanging in their old West Hollywood home together. Appalled that the opening bid is $500, Tina jumps all in with a $10,000 winning bid. “I didn’t want someone else to have a piece of us,” Tina tells Bette before they leave the bar together.

“You’re still fun,” Sophie tells Finley as they play strip basketball together, outside in public. What the f? And is Sophie drunk? I’m not into this. Perhaps Finn isn’t into this continued vein of recklessness either because she doesn’t know how to sleep with Sophie when she herself is sober.

Jordy never had your back, Angie

Angie invited Jordy to her dorm room and is all excited to be alone together for the first time. In predictable, unlikeable Jordy fashion, Jordy breaks up with her. Angie is crushed.

After the implied rocky and surface level year, Bette and Tina start reconciling. As I sit and think to myself, ”I think this season has a lot in store for their story,” the reconciliation picks up pace: Bette and Tina kiss. Yeah, this season does have a lot of Tibette for us die-hard The L Word OGs. But wait — Angie walks in on them just as they are kissing. She’s in no mood for this right now and says so, “You gotta be fucking kidding me.”

Lovers reunited

The preview for episode two and the season ahead looks absolutely lit and I cannot wait to be back here with you sapphics next week to recap the next episode!
